Sometimes you definitely can. The tights troll, boxroom troll, poo troll, the one obsessed with dogs, the baby names troll etc. They are pretty easy to spot. Mostly, you can't tell.

Because they might look like they're interacting pleasantly and making friends but they're actually up to no good. Sometimes you can stop them before they do actual harm.
