What does my desk need?

Tomorrow is my first at my new job and this is what I've set up so far. I think they'll end sending a monitor as it's 13in laptop but I'd rather keep it minimalist as this is a multi purpose room

A chair?

Onlyrainbows · 09/01/2022 17:16

Tbh I’d get rid of the lamp, plant and photo as they’d get in my way. Space for a cuppa and a proper keyboard.

LemonDrizzles · 09/01/2022 17:18

Laptop riser, separate keyboard.

A dcat... Every working space needs one.
Imo.

Hellocatshome · 09/01/2022 17:19

A view? I couldn't sit looking at a blank wall all day.

Onlyrainbows · 09/01/2022 17:20

I does have a view (to the side) it's a conservatory. And I do have a cat :)

A couple of decorated cardboard boxes.

Not sure why or what they are for, but they always seem to be on a shelf in any woman’s office on TV. Grin

I have

Laptop
2 monitors
Keyboard
Webcam clipped to monitor
Headphones - makes audio on Teams much clearer!
Bottle of water
Coffee

I have a notepad and pen but tend to make electronic notes, much easier.

Hellocatshome · 09/01/2022 17:22

Ok I see you have a view and a cat, the only thing missing now is a biscuit draw.

MooshWoosh · 09/01/2022 17:23

Congratulations for getting a new job!

I think you have a lovely set up.

I find working at home I've found it easier with an external keyboard and mouse.
I also like having post-it notes, a radio (for background noise inbetween calls) and fluffy socks (my feet always get freezing when I'm sat at my desk).

Plants or baskets or books on the windowsill, candle or fairy lights

WineIsMyCarb · 09/01/2022 17:27

Ring light like an Instagram influencer - it will make.it look like yours still conscious in boring meetings.
Snake plant (mother in law's tongue) or similarly neglectable houseplant.
Cork board for bits of paper that will stay up there for 18 months past the date you needed to keep them until.

Actually I would put all the 'bits' you have on your desk on a shallow little shelf at eye level, so you have some visual interest and your desk is clear.

Comfy slippers, a warm blanket for your legs, a mirror on the wall so an axe murderer/ burglar can’t creep up behind you.

Passthecake30 · 09/01/2022 17:28

My desk always needs lip balm and hand cream.
Your desk is small so I’d remove the clutter - the purple thing and the plant.

A separate keyboard, mouse and monitor.

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 09/01/2022 17:28

Pad of paper or sticky notes next to your phone
