Worst toothache ever, can anyone help?

I’ve had toothache on and off for last week and optimistically thought it would go away. Except it hasn’t and is the worst pain I’ve felt in a long time, even the paracetamol and ibuprofen is not working. Currently on antibiotics too (started 2 days ago). I’ve tried salt water and putting clove there. Left side of face ( pain side) is swollen, it started hurting at the bottom but is now hurting both at the top and bottom. I’m in agony any recommendations welcome.

Alcohol if you have any in the house on a bit off cotton wool might numb it and tomorrow get neurofen plus.

Get this tomorrow if you can. It's a tiny tube so might be worth getting 2 if they allow it but it helps.

Sympathies. Toothache is the absolute worst. I hope that you can get some relief soon.

Or phone nhs direct tomorrow you might get an emergency dentist appointment and they will treat the pain. There is nothing worse than toothache.

Can you not get an emergency dental appointment?

When I phoned nhs24 when I had toothache (I had an exposed nerve in my mouth) they gave me cocodamol to see me through the night until I could see dentist next day.

Elieza · 08/01/2022 22:59

Cold water.

RedSoloCup · 08/01/2022 23:07

Lots of salt water rinses helped me as it draws the infection out

YouBoggleMyMind · 08/01/2022 23:10

Codeine or liquid ambesol direct into the tooth.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 08/01/2022 23:12

Brush teeth and then gargle dissolved aspirin in warm water ( do not swollen this) swish it all around the tooth area and spit out.
Then apply oral gel and a hot water bottle.

Brandy

Rub dry toothpaste over it in the short term - preferably sensodyne. It gives temporary relief.

Paramol and ibuprofen

I have had really bad tooth ache to the point that it effects my ear and eye on that side. If there Is a tiny bit of noise it would send a shooting pain between my ear and tooth I can barely explain the pain it's just awful.

I have found theses tablets to be the best. I hope yoir pain free soon

I'm sorry if I'm missing something but you need an emergency dentist appointment asap. No amount of pain relief will sort it out when it's that bad.

PurpleCarpets · 09/01/2022 12:57

Swap the paracetamol for over-the-counter co-codamol. It's paracetamol with a little bit of codeine, it helped my toothache when nothing else would touch it. You can combine with ibuprofen (although it sounds like that isn't helping anyway).

BettyOBarley · 09/01/2022 12:58

Paramol from the chemist.
I had horrific dental pain once and it was the it thing that touched it.

Yes - same thing as co-codamol I believe. The main thing is to get something with some codeine in.
Jayaywhynot · 09/01/2022 13:22

2 paracetamol then 2 hours later take 2 ibuprofen, keep it up all day alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen, dentist told me this while I had toothache and waited 4 weeks to have it removed.
Also a heatpack against the side that hurts
