Palm oil. What was used before?

Trying to find a birthday cake without palm oil. Seems impossible. Wondering what was used before palm oil as I'm quite sure it didn't used to be in so many products!

Also any ideas for a birthday cake that doesn't contain a million weird ingredients plus palm oil? ! And yes I could cook one but it won't look edible if I'm honest

Some palm oil is Sustainable but it would generally be marked as such. I visited a Sustainable, fair trade palm oil plantation in Ghana. The palm oil from there is used in Traidcraft biscuits and cakes. If you don't know it Traidcraft is a fair trade organisation and you can buy their goods on line or through volunteer reps or fair traders.

That's why I started baking.

Cheap margerine? Most likely you don't want to know.

I either make my own cakes or get a cake maker for DD as a treat (not every year).

Hmm I think I prefer butter.
Thanks my local cake shop is shut now and I was hoping to get one by Monday.
Perhaps it's time to see if I own a cake tin and make one. It's for myself. I just want a birthday cake even though I'm a fully grown adult and it's not even a special one !
