Aldi specialbuy regrets!

A bit of light relief...but am I alone in suddenly realising how much I actually REALLY need/want that special buy which I ummed and ahhed about buying a couple of months back?

Previously it was a large memory foam dog mat...thankfully after several months wait they reappeared so elderly pooch is comfy and happy.

But my latest one is a kids air bed shaped like A car. Dismissed it when they were available and now realise actually it would be the ideal solution to where my toddler could sleep on our holiday in may.

Therefore holding out for a repeat of the specialbuy...but I suspect I'm in wishful thinking territory!

With both I actually picked them up and had them in the trolley but decided against them!! I should just go with my gut!! Confused

That kind of thing, where it's "buy it before it's gone", you should always go with your instincts!! I can't tell you how many times I've done this, be it with Aldi Specialbuys, or stuff from B&M / Home & Bargain etc - I've seen something, thought it looked nice and I'd buy it in a couple of weeks - kiss of death and I've never seen the thing instore again!!
Sorry this doesn't help you in the least but I do sympathise!

No that helps! It's good to know it's not just me kicking myself!! Thankyou-and sorry it happens to you too!

Trust the gut!!

Get another dog bed. When ours were little we had a couple of big comfy dog beds (no dog) which we used as travel beds for the girls. Grannies weren't impressed but sometimes we had trouble getting the girls back into their own beds after.

I’ve been doing this for years! Don’t like to accumulate too much stuff and suspect I’m also a bit of a miser about spending on things other than necessities.
On the few occasions I do see something I really like, I usually persuade myself I don’t “need” it, regret it, go back a day or two later and it’s gone 🙄
Would have thought I’d have learned by now.

A plate warmer. My mum got one, it's so quick and easy. I don't even know why I want it really as I'm not at a stage to use it with 3 small children and with covid we never have anyone round, but it as only £10 and one day I might have the sort of life where I smugly serve up delicious homemade food onto prewarmed plates, rather than oven baked frozen stuff onto IKEA plastic plates that are fought over because they all want the same colour Blush

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/01/2022 08:49

In the meantime, 1 minute in the microwave does the job nicely, 3/4 plates stacked Smile

Gastricbland · 09/01/2022 09:59

I thought this would be about the shit that you've impulse bought. We have loads of that.

My dh bought one of those awful fly screen things that gypsy women have outside the caravan before they read your palm. I don't know what he was thinking. We have bifold patio doors. Where was this delight going to take pride of place?

Bloatstoat · 09/01/2022 10:45

Ooh thank you @MrsSkylerWhite, I feel a bit stupid but I had never thought of doing that! I may give it a go for me and DH for Sunday lunch - it's the little things!Smile

Just Call me Gypsy Rose Santa.... Those door flappy screens are great for keeping flies out in the summer!! Took ddog a while to use it though!!

malanimo · 09/01/2022 10:49

Was the bed like this one? www.argos.co.uk/product/9174755

I saw someone refer to this on another thread as Procrastinator's Regret. I get it all the time!

TreeLawney · 09/01/2022 10:52

Those toddler ready beds are absolutely hopeless, so good swerve there. Much more longevity in something like this www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15983967/hi-gear-slumber-campbed-15983967

Well if you're in the market for another one - I know where there's one brand new in box Wink
Branleuse · 09/01/2022 10:54

The middle aisle of doom.
Its sooo tempting. I try check out online and make sure no big purchases unless its something i wanted anyway and its a bargain.
For instance my air fryer. Id wanted one for ages. Also a heated blanket.
If its something im tempted by but not sure then ill either take a pic and think about it when i get home, or if its last one ill take it with a view of potentially returning it

MerryMarigold · 09/01/2022 10:54

There's a whole load of special buys I've REALLY wanted (I live 3 min from Lidl and 5 min from Aldi Shock ) but have refrained from buying. I can't think of any that I still want! Not enough space in my kitchen for things I don't use.

PatriotCanes · 09/01/2022 11:00

They don't call it the Aisle of Shite for nothing! Or the aisles of silly. I reckon it's about 50/50 if what I get from there is very good or very crap.

Adododoadahdahdah · 09/01/2022 11:12

@malanimo I’m assuming this one as pp said car shaped.

eagerlywaitingfor · 09/01/2022 11:27

I love looking through the aisle of doom at all the random stuff, and do wonder just who it is who drops in for some food shopping and then thinks "Ooh, some crampons and a MIG welder, just what I always wanted".

UnicornPoopsRainbows · 09/01/2022 12:20

I regret everything. Furniture came without the nuts and bolts. I had to ring Aldi on an 0845 number and get them sent from Germany. What a faff. I won’t touch anything now

I had the same problem! They told me they’d give me 25% off and I could buy my own, I worked out it’d cost me £75 just in nuts and bolts, the furniture was only £130 itself. I complained to my bank and they dealt with it as German call centre were awful.
