Empty weekend

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 08/01/2022 09:19

Please inspire me with how to fill my weekend.
I am going to an exercise class at lunchtime, have DS and DSD here until 6pm but no other plans at all.
I usually have something I fancy cooking or something I want to watch on tv at least but I'm drawing blanks and feeling quite depressed about it.
What are you doing? What should I do?

If you want a binge watch on the tv I loved The Tourist, it’s on I player, and Toast of Tinseltown too.

You could read a book, go for a walk in the countryside, meet a friend for coffee/lunch, visit a gallery/exhibition, do something crafty?

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 08/01/2022 09:30

I could def give The Tourist a go.

Unfortunately the weather is crap here so outdoor stuff is limited. I've got a book on the go but it's not grabbing me yet, I can try and push on more with that.

No friends near enough to see, sadly.

I have ambitions today to:
Drink more coffee in bed
Get dressed
Supervise some homework half-heartedly while making cheese scones
Walk the dog (in the rain)
See name labels into some uniform
Light the fire and watch a film next to it
Mmmmmmmmm

I envy your free weekend!

It’s rainy here too so we are having a lazy morning, and seeing Spider-Man: No Way Home at our tiny local cinema this afternoon, before coming home and cooking orange chicken from the Slimming Eats cookbook that arrived this week. DH and DS2 want to go and have dragged me and DS3. We were supposed to be going swimming but the session was fully booked. I’ll also do a walk out to make sure I’ve done my steps for the day and take my library books back.

If I had the arranging of things, and DH and the D.C. would fall in line, I’d get up late, go for a long rainy walk in the countryside, then spend the afternoon having a long bath and reading before ordering a takeaway!

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 08/01/2022 09:50

I'm thinking I might sort through my wardrobe, that seems a good rainy day activity.
Also might make a pie filling today (beef or pork and cider) to eat tomorrow.
Just discovered a local antique place is open tomorrow so that's on my tentative list now.
Also a swim and sauna at the gym tomorrow perhaps.
Maybe that's enough plans for now Grin

Put on something you save for best , that’s what I’ve done

Echoesandsilence · 08/01/2022 10:30

I've sorted my clothes this morning and really feel like that was a big accomplishment.

Is there anything you like to eat that takes too long to cook during the week? You could treat yourself to that for dinner.

I've had loads of recommendations this week to watch 'the gentlemen' so going to watch that tonight.

wizzywig · 08/01/2022 10:33

Hit the shops!

BooksAndGin · 08/01/2022 10:34

Going food shopping, while DC push me about in my wheelchair using me as a Ferrari around the supermarket. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂
Then I'm going to sit and read my books with a hot water bottle and a blanket as my leg is currently not working Grin need to do DCs homework with them as well.

I always find the weekends following Christmas/new year hard to fill as it's always rubbish weather until March time and there isn't much to do!

greatape · 08/01/2022 10:48

I am the same.

I am going to do a few hours of work tomorrow first thing as behind. My mum is coming for lunch but she does every week so that's just normal. Today there is a bit of housework, some washing and need to go to shops for food.

For me I have yoga to do and I want to walk but it's torrential outside. I need to settle on a book as I have about 3 on the go atm.

For kids Daughters football likely to be rained off as it's like a swamp outside. So a bit of shouting to get homework/chores/room not a health hazard will be needed. They don't have plans with friends I don't think so I suspect it will be so much YouTube they go square eyed.

Dh is snoring next to me (I don't think he's that well actually). Don't think he has much/anything planned so will do chores/shopping then chill.

We'll get some nice food for dinner - they all have some spicy sausage pasta planned and I fancy a curry (token veggie). Masked singer later for all of us then I have talked dh into watching the gentlemen as it's also been recommended. Tomorrow dds and I have round the world in 80 days and pottery thrown down.

Whataroyalannoyance · 08/01/2022 10:51

I went to the gym early and I now realise that was a bad Ice because I'm bored already

Sunsetsupernova · 08/01/2022 10:51

I have a very empty weekend. Currently isolating with Covid until Monday so the whole weekend is out. I had planned to spend the whole day making the products I sell through my small business but got everything ready and realised I have run out of a key material which I can’t get until I’m allowed out.

Currently sitting on the sofa eating leftover garlic bread and thinking I might clean the bathroom and then have a long bubble bath with one of my Christmas books.

toomuchlaundry · 08/01/2022 10:52

Are you in your own once the DC leave this evening?

JuneOsborne · 08/01/2022 10:53

Make a biryani.

I highly recommend The Gentlemen, it's excellent.

Pouring here, too. I'm just back from the physio, shoulder feeling a lot better. My plans are tidying (which I love), cleaning the cat litter tray (which I don't) and a bit of housework. Tea and the TV after that, then out for dinner with man (we are too old to use boyfriend and girlfriend 😂)

FindingMeno · 08/01/2022 10:57

I'm going back to bed for a snooze.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 08/01/2022 11:15

Just me and OH. He will likely fill a large chunk of time making music. Not sure I fancy joining in at the moment.

Hit the shops!
Did that on Monday! Now need to be a bit more sensible for the rest of the month as we spontaneously spent a LOT of money on a new piece of art 😬

If it's just the 2 of you why don't you go out for a nice child free meal

LadyCleathStuart · 08/01/2022 11:47

Im back to the grind of kids clubs this morning then we will have a child free early dinner as DC are out for a few hours later. Tomorrow will be a big dog walk then prep for the DC being back at school on Monday. Maybe fit in some new boardgames that we got for Christmas and have hardly played.

LindaEllen · 08/01/2022 12:19

I love free weekends! I always read, watch TV, do a little exercise, catch up on bits of housework that I couldn't get done in the week, have a nice long bath, make something nice for tea, and maybe a few phone calls to catch up with family/friends.

But then again I am a homebody and there's nothing I like better than time on my own (or with DP). I know not everyone is like this!

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 08/01/2022 14:17

I think because I WFH all week I get a bit antsy and want to make the most of the time.
But I've been to the butchers and bought food and we're going to a wander round an antique place in a bit.

Next weekend is busy busy so I'll try to just enjoy some downtime
