How to find a good IFA

Hi there, looking for recommendations on how to find a good independent financial advisor, specifically to help with retirement planning. I'm 54. I've tried the usual websites and been in contact with a couple of people but for the initial £££ they require upfront, how do I need who's good and who isn't? I figured a personal recommendation would be good but none of my friends no anyone. Anyone know anyone that they could recommend and has given them good advice in the past?

TIA

Did you try Unbiased? I know several IFAs and most provide an initial meeting with no charge to fact find your circumstances and requirements and then outline their thoughts and charges, usually using a ‘cash flow planning’ tool to talk through your requirements in terms of saving and to meet your retirement income needs.

Thanks for the response - I've done a couple of free initial first meetings. Then there's a fee of anything up to a few hundred pounds to go further into the process, review my savings etc and come up with recommendations. That's the point at which I have no idea whether their advice is going to be worthwhile!

Ask for recommendations on Facebook and your local Facebook sites.
