Help! Pairing bluetooth pods to macbook

So I have a macbook air and generic, non-apple Bluetooth earbuds. How on earth do I pair them to my laptop??

I can't scan for devices with the earbuds so am reliant on the source device doing that but the Bluetooth on my laptop doesn't seem to have this function. Can anyone help please??

Have you paired the earbuds with another device

You’ll need to put your headphones into pairing mode so that your MacBook can see them. Then you’ll be able to connect and they’ll stay paired to your laptop until you pair them with another device.
