Am I a horrible person?

Name change in case I get flammed. I just want to get it off my chest as I know I won't say anything IRL. But my sister split with her DH 18 months ago. We were obviously all there for her. Now 18 months later nothing has changed. Her and her Ex are still having regular arguments and issues over custody of the children. I get regularly (sometime daily) phone calls from her angry or upset. Every time I speak to my parents it's all they talk about saying how horrible her ex is etc.

I am completely and utterly drained by it. I feel it is having an effect on my mood having to hear the latest argument all the time. If I'm honest I think both my sister and her ex are as bad as each other. Their relationship was always volatile.

Am I a horrible person not wanting to hear it anymore? I try to be understanding it must be awful sharing custody of children/not seeing them everyday. But I also feel neither of them are trying to make it amicable and just want to score points hence constant drama.

Just stop engaging

I know what you mean, hearing drama all the time is really draining. Even more so if they're creating it rather than trying to solve the issues. Some people love the drama though!

You are not horrible. It’s incredibly wearing your be bogged down by perpetual drama, especially when it could probably be easily resolved but the person or person in question seem to thrive on constant aggro.

I am not surprised you feel so drained.

Tell your sister about grey rock and a co-parenting app then step away and stop engaging - effectively grey rock her!
