Threatened miscarriage and the hospital will not scan

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has any advice or experience.
I'm am 6 weeks pregnant after ivf and started bleeding today, went to the toilet and passed 2 large blood clots. (I couldn't examine them though). I went to the early pregnancy unit and waited for 5 hours to be seen. I was still bleeding like a period. The dr checked me and said my cervix was closed and I was having a threatened miscarriage and it is 50/50. They couldn't book me in for a scan for 2 more weeks which surprised me.

I had a 19 week twin late miscarriage 2 years ago and I am at the end of my rope with this news.

I am currently in bed and planning to call the fertility clinic in the morning and see if they can book me in for a scan. My sickness has also gone so I'm pretty sure but I wish I could have been scanned tonight.

Ah I'm so sorry op.

It's awful having to wait but my experience is that this is fairly standard in early pregnancy. The outcome can't be changed by a scan so if it's busy, early pregnancy just isn't a priority for the resources.

Hoping for the best for you x

I’m sorry you are in this position. They won’t book you in for a scan because the scan isn’t going to alter the outcome and therefore isn’t clinically indicated. You wouldn’t warrant a scan in normal circumstances and atm the services are so stretched you certainly won’t get one unless you go private.

BeMoreGoldfish · 06/01/2022 23:20

As pp says this is really standard as a scan could be inconclusive and won’t change the outcome Sad.

I’m so sorry - I’ve walked in your shoes 3 times and it’s so desperate SadSadFlowers.

It’s a horrible waiting game Sad

Good luck OP🤞for you

So so sorry to hear this OP - I have walked the path of miscarriage after IVF and it is soul destroying. I totally understand your desire to ‘know’ as soon as possible as for me the limbo period of desperate hope each time was almost worse than the grim reality.

Are you on progesterone?

This happened to me, it was awful. They told me to wait 2 weeks to go for a scan to check that there was definitely nothing there, I ended up just going to work as normal as I didn't know what else to do, I passed a few big clots in work and I was so upset I phoned and asked if they could fit me in sooner as I just needed to know.
I got pregnant again soon after and bled a couple of times at the beginning, OOH told me there was no point contacting the EPU as they wouldn't scan me anyway. I was lucky that time as it was ok but they were so uninterested and lacking in empathy.

I assumed they would want to do a scan to make sure everything was ok with me, but no.

Sorry for making it about me, I really hope you're ok and you can put your mind at ease Thanks
