Am i right to worry? Don’t want to waste gp time

When I was pg with my youngest (now nearly 2!) one breast seemed to grow quicker and stayed bigger.

When I was bf dd I thought maybe I was favouring one side which won’t help so I made an effort to alternate in case it had more milk ducts ? Or just more breast tissue ?

It’s stayed at least 2 cup sizes bigger. The other side feels fine I can examine myself and feel nothing but the larger side 🤔
No actual lumps but it feels bigger , firmer and this will sound odd but more textured / coarse inside ? The smaller side is squidgy and smooth the large side just feels like when you have an engorged breast but I’m not bf now ??
Also nipple is itchy
It’s not red etc and I’ve had mastitis previous it’s def not that

Should I go to the gp or is it silly o know how overstretched the nhs is I dont want to go for nothing

Yes go get checked out I don't think you can waste a GPS time if you ha e a health concern.

bloodywhitecat · 06/01/2022 20:22

It's not nothing though is it, it feels different and there has been a change in the tissue. It is probably nothing but I certainly don't think it would be a waste of the GP's time to give them a call about it.

What harm will it do if you get an appointment ?

I just feel as if it’s quite odd there isn’t an actual lump but it feels different to the ‘normal’ side
It’s been going on so long but with the itching starting yest I feel like it’s just not quite right

Any breast changes or concerns should always be checked out by a healthcare professional. You won't be wasting anybody time.

@Mrsjayy

What harm will it do if you get an appointment ?
It’s just so hard to get one and then if I get a hospital referral I’ll feel awful if it’s nothing but then I can tell something isn’t right 😞

Thankyou. I’ll make an appointment it just was making me u sure as it’s not the usual ‘I found a lump’ scenario and I didn’t want to be taking up an appt if I don’t need to

But over 95% of cases referred to the breast clinic aren't cancer, none of those cases are wasting anyone's time. Please speak to your GP Flowers

Mrsjayy · 06/01/2022 20:28

But if its nothing then that's ok the NHS want you to be healthy please go ask to see your practice nurse ask for a breast check.

hmmmmWorried · 06/01/2022 20:31

Thankyou everyone I will make an appointment

jamsandwich1 · 06/01/2022 20:32

It’s not stupid at all. Why don’t you ask for a call back from the GP so you can explain over the phone. They can then advise what they think is best.
I had a lump when BFing and thought it was probably nothing but I couldn’t rest just leaving it. I called my GP and they referred me straight to breast clinic without seeing me and was seen within 10 days. Amazing service.

Jedstre · 06/01/2022 20:32

I’d echo what’s been said before. Make the appointment and your GP may well refer you to the breast clinic. A change in your breasts is enough to warrant a GP appointment, not just lumps. As pp said, most cases they see in the breast clinic aren’t breast cancer and they’re used to that.

Jedstre · 06/01/2022 20:33

Cross posting. good to see you’re going to make the appointment

OldWivesTale · 06/01/2022 20:35

Definitely make an appointment. Most breast changes /lumps turn out to be nothing - but I've had breast cancer and I didn't go to the drs for a long time as I didn't have an actual lump; I had a very slightly droopy nipple and it was also itchy. It's probably nothing but any breast change needs investigation

You're not medically trained. You would not be given a hospital appointment if you did not need one - getting a good outcome does not mean you didn't need the appointment!

Establishing whether something like this needs treatment or not is literally the purpose of the NHS. It is not a waste of anything.

Morechocmorechoc · 06/01/2022 20:47

I have similar although only 1 size. Would be interested to hear what they say as I got pain as well and it was all dismissed as nothing as no actual lump. Didn't feel reassuring
