🤣

It's for a TA position at the school I've worked in for almost 6 years & I've been asked to read a story to Reception class, who I see every day.

So far I'm to read Kitchen Disco because I clearly enjoy that more than Bear Hunt, and I'm to ask more questions as I'm reading.

I wonder if she gives outfit tips too 🤔🤣. I couldn't decide earlier whether to 'dress up' or just go as I usually would because I'm straight in to work afterwards.

Does she give tips on life in general? Interested to hear more!

OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree · 06/01/2022 18:28

@lucysmam Could you do Bear Hunt and maybe act as though you're all going on a bear hunt? Ask them to act it out with you? Smile Itll be fun for them!

SuperSange · 06/01/2022 18:40

Kitchen Disco is my fave children's book.

@pastypirate I'm not sure about general life tips...I stopped listening properly a while ago 🙈 she's talked non-stop since getting in this afternoon 🤣you can come and see what she has to say if you like!?

@OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree I thought about that but am not sure which space we're using. I'll have to see in the morning.

@SuperSange mine too! Another colleague tried to convince me not to go with it, yesterday, because it might make them "too exciteable" just before dinner time 🤔 but it's just so fun!

Reception teacher here
I’m sure you will be fab . I’d go for Bear hunt over kitchen disco.
Keep them sitting down just doing arm actions for all the repeated bits ( cant go over it. Cant go under it ….) and a ‘my turn your turn’ for the chorus ( we’re going on a bear hunt , going to catch a big one etc )
Good luck with it

HollowTalk · 06/01/2022 19:22

Could you say before you start that at the end they will sit with their eyes shut in silence for a few seconds, to calm them down? Or something similar!

llansannan11 · 06/01/2022 20:01

Nice to read that DD2 wants you to get the job, much as her behaviour may not be helping!

lucysmam · 06/01/2022 20:33

@cockeyedoptimist any particular reason for Bear Hunt over Kitchen Disco, out of interest?

I think tomorrow's audience may be kinder than tonight's which consisted of dd2 asking lots of questions & dd1 "heckling" from her seat 🙄🤣

@llansannan11 it wasn't really but she is very excited for me to get it, which is nice. I'm quite relieved she went for a shower though, leaving me in peace to read over our safeguarding policy again!

Hi Op
I guess it’s just personal preference - they’re both great books . But I think that the repeated refrain in bear hunt is easier for the children to join in with and has potential for a wider variety of actions than dancing ( especially if you’re trying not to over excite them before lunch ! )
But honestly, go with whichever one you enjoy reading the most . Your enthusiasm and enjoyment will rub off and they will get them most out of it
I hope it all goes well for you

DS is a TA in Reception and says that Pirate Pete is always a winner. Good luck for tomorrow!

lucysmam · 06/01/2022 21:18

Thanks cockeyedoptimist; I have both so will practise again in the morning and then decide (but the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards Bear Hunt).

Thankyou Bronzegate! I haven't read Pirate Pete so will stick to these but I'll hunt down a copy to add to my lunch time 'go-to' pile for EYFS & KS1.
