Yesterday I had my first ever experience of hypnosis - I'm trying to overcome some phobias.

It was a very pleasant experience just lying back with nice music and having the therapist voice an imaginary journey. But in all honesty I don't think I was asleep, or in a trance or anything.

I don't know if it was that I didn't trust him enough to let go or that there is something about me that makes me unsusceptible or whether I should keep going and see if it goes beyond skin-deep next time....

I'd be interested in hearing from others who've tried it :)

Yes, just the same, in the hope of getting over a fear. I was slightly bored and didn't trust him and it did nothing for me at all. (Except cost a great deal.)

Do hypnotherapist work in different ways?

I think I might need someone who focuses on sounds/sensations not visualisations.

I had my first session tonight, not sure what to make of it if I'm honest! I did relax very easily and the time flew by, but I found her voice a little annoying. I'm not sure if it'll work, but still open minded. Got another one next week.

Give it time. It's amazing in my experience.

Had my second session tonight. Definitely very relaxing, she had to wake me up at the end! Still not sure it’s tackling my issue though but I’ll see how this week goes.
