Registering a marriage…. Have I messed it up?

We are getting married 12/03 and in order to keep our registrar we need to have given notice by 12/01…. I’ve left it too late and I’m now worried the wedding isn’t going to have a registrar Blush. There’s no appointments at my local one at all. Can we travel 20 miles down the road (still in the same county) and do it there or does it have to be the one closest to me? Ie in my town?

My defence is that we moved house in November so I was waiting for proof of address but didn’t realise how little time I’d given myself until now.

We were able to give notice at our local registry, which was about 10 miles from our county’s main registry office - our wedding itself was in a neighbouring (but different) county.

We found the registrars to be super helpful so definitely worth giving them a call to check the rules and also check if any cancellations have cropped up.

We gave notice in a different county to our venue.

Second giving them a call tomorrow! They don't want to catch you out and you still have time before 12 Jan to sort it out.

I think you have to give notice in the county you pay council tax in, not the county you’re getting married in. I don’t think it had to be your closest, just in the same county

Good luck, I hope you keep the date, it's my WA (and birthday) Smile

As long as it's in the same county you live in I'm sure it's fine. Just ring them and ask! They're really helpful.

mummyh2016 · 06/01/2022 08:04

It just has to be the same county as where you live.

Thanks for all the lovely replies- I managed to get in touch with them today and it’s all good to go (phew!).
