Minimalist challenge...am I deluded?

Too much stuff... there was another thread about this in recent days. I feel suffocated and equally ashamed at the amount of stuff we have and as a result.... I have set a goal... I am not allowed to buy ANYTHING new for myself for an entire year.. other than toiletries only when they run out, underwear and socks as needed. That's it... no clothes... no shoes...no bags....no jewellery... nothing whatsoever. O have stuff I don't even know I have stuffed away in drawers. I can't bear the thought of both spending days going through everything and then getting rid of things I haven't used... what a waste is more than one way !
So my solution was use it ... with no option to buy ANYTHING I am hoping I might get to clear out stuff by having to use it and feel better about it !
Am I crazy? If you've done it can you share tips? Any other thoughts ?
Feel equally terrified and excited Grin

That’s a bit extreme to go head first into.

. What about starting off with when you buy a new item of clothing you have to take three items out to charity?
You could also aim to take X amount of bags of stuff to a charity shop each week, increasing the amount every couple of weeks?

@BleuJay thats also a very good idea... I might do that as well and try for a few months. Mainly I think I need to be mindful and haven't been for years... overlaps I am trying to punish myself and actually your approach is kinder ! Tx

It is potentially extreme. But also potentially could really work well.

I'd maybe combine the two.

So - have a very good clear out over the year.

If you absolutely NEED to buy something the get it. But give yourself rules to follow before you're able.

So like

  • make sure you don't already have something that's the same/similar enough to do the job.
  • throw away/donate 5 things before you buy it.
  • sell enough to pay for it?

Not necessarily those exact rules but at least some kind of plan that'll both lessen your hoard and make you feel justified in the purchase.
