Period delaying tablets

Has anyone taken norethisterone to delay a period? I've just worked put that my period is due slap bang in the middle of my very special treat weekend in a lovely hotel in a couple of months.

If you've taken it, please could you tell me:

  • did it work?
  • did you have any side effects?
  • did your next period delay too or did you come back into line (eg if you delayed period by a week, was the next one four weeks later as usual or three weeks later back in its normal scheduled slot)?

Trying to work our whether it's worth delaying my next one so that the trip is in the clear of my new schedule, or if I need to delay the one that's interfering with my holiday/shag plans.

Thank you!

I've taken it. It did work, didn't get any side effects, and my next period came after the usual gap.

There is really almost no reason for you to get your period if you are on the pill and can just take the pill continuously.

ArchiePenrose · 04/01/2022 23:07

That is excellent news! Thank you 😊

I took it. Periods came back as usual. It was heavier and had more period pain than usual. Would still use it again though.
Enjoy your hotel break

Taken it loads of times. When I was younger I didn’t notice any significant side effects, although I think it has always pushed the period back further than I’d have expected. Since my late 30s, however, it has changed the periods themselves so the first one after is much shorter, more painful and heavier. I’ve had a few times where it came out in one piece as a decidual cast. The first time this happened was in the bath - a lot of pain for about five or ten minutes, then this terrifying thing slipped out and that was that. Now I’m prepared for that to happen it’s no big deal.

Will be taking it again soon.

I've just googled decidual casts. Holy shit!

Straight forward for me, but I did have a decidual cast which was pretty painful when I stopped taking the tablets.

Great question Op, I've been thinking about this myself as DH and I are going away for a weekend which clashes!

Mykittensmittens · 04/01/2022 23:18

Yes but delay the prior one which will then throw off the problematic one.

If you use it for the problematic one directly, for some it can make you bloated and irritable, which won’t help your shagging plans either.

Skewing the prior one by a few days/a week is a better approach and worked for me.

ArchiePenrose · 04/01/2022 23:20

I definitely don't want to be bloated. I have a great frock!

Yeah it's fine. I have used it. Try not to mess around too much with my cycle but for something important I'd take it.

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 04/01/2022 23:22

I took it to delay over my wedding and honeymoon. It did make me really bloated but it worked.
Next period was fine.

Bussinbussin · 04/01/2022 23:24

I have tried a few times (and to take the regular pill continuously) and just get constant breakthrough bleeds the week my period is due anyway. So I agree with the idea to try and reset your cycle a month or 2 beforehand, give it time to settle.

Nat6999 · 04/01/2022 23:28

I took it every day for 2 years until I had a hysterectomy.

Yes, both alarming and revolting Grin On the other hand, quite efficient...
Icouldabeenalawyer · 04/01/2022 23:36

It works, next one as normal. Have taken for holidays, when I got married.
I delay the one before though, because they make me super bloated and a mahoosive crank!
