What do you do with the wee?!

Toilet training my 2 year old. He's fairly good, but I'm struggling a bit when we are out and about. I keep a potty in the boot of the car, but I'm wondering what to do with the wee when he's used it.

I want to buy a travel potty, where the lid seals the wee inside until you get home. My husband says just chuck it in a hedge/down a drain. This is fine if we're out somewhere like a wood, where no one will notice, but not so fine on the school run, where we park and walk in housing estates etc.

Husband says just take a large Tupperware box to tip the wee into for these occasions. I think a proper travel potty would really help.

What does everyone else do?

We bought the travel potty, even though I begrudged spending so much money on it, it was definitely really handy and got used a lot.

winesolveseverything · 04/01/2022 21:20

I used to line the potty with a small bin liner type thing and use cheap pads inside to absorb it. Then I'd tie it up and bin it as soon as was practical.

Dazzylazzy · 04/01/2022 21:20

I never took a potty around. Mine went before we left the house and could wait until we got to a toilet. I do joke I gave birth to camels though they go to the toilet less than I do. I think some line the potty with a nappy for long car journeys etc.

Travel potty, or normal potty lined with a strong nappy bag/dog poo bag. Make a knot in it and take the wee home....

HalloHello · 04/01/2022 21:22

Rubbish for the environment but don't get used often here, puppy pads to soak it up and put in bin when you get home.

TragoCardboardCopper · 04/01/2022 21:23

I used to take the potty and DD could use it in the boot of the car if nesessary. I used to put a nappy bag in the hole and put loo roll in. Then tie it off and chuck it in an outside bin if one was available / take it home.

Eileen101 · 04/01/2022 21:24

Buy the travel potty - worth every penny for being able to close the lid and deal with it later.

batmanladybird · 04/01/2022 21:25

I am sure I kept mine in a constant state of dehydration Blush

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 04/01/2022 21:25

You could use a bag inside the potty and add cat litter to absorb it, the wood pellet ones are better for the environment.

TragoCardboardCopper · 04/01/2022 21:25

Thing is, with the travel potty, if it's been used what do you do if they need to go again? Or are you only doing short periods without loo access rather than all day?

Georgeskitchen · 04/01/2022 21:25

My sons used to have a wee in a roadside grid when we were out 😁

satci · 04/01/2022 21:26

So can a travel potty only really be used once before it is emptied?

ffscovid · 04/01/2022 21:26

If you need to use the potty on the school run, he's really not potty trained.
For other emergency situations (long drives, full days out) tip it down the drain or into a hedge (or as he's a little boy, just get him to do a wee in the tree in the first place Smile).

ReadtheFT · 04/01/2022 21:28

Just find a bush/tree

wishingitwasspring · 04/01/2022 21:28

I never took a potty out. They went before we went out and then used a toilet if needed.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 04/01/2022 21:29

I'd Chuck it in a bush but as you are the one dealing with it it's up to you not DH

Penny31 · 04/01/2022 21:29

We had a travel potty that came with bags that had an absorbent pad in. You attaché the bag to the potty, they were and you throw the bag away. The potty also doubles up as a toilet seat which is handy.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 04/01/2022 21:29

Get a Potette. It folds up small with dedicated pad bags to catch and hold the wee.

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 04/01/2022 21:30

I got a travel potty - expensive but worth it and we used it in the house too for potty training so not just outside

If I was near a drain / toilet I would empty in there otherwise just bring home

Boogaloony · 04/01/2022 21:33

I've had four kids and this was never ever a thing. We took the potty if we were going to nanny's house for the day but toilet training (for dry days) was over and done with after 2-4 weeks. So we just took them out with knickers/undies on and made sure they went the loo/potty before we left. We intentionally stayed local and often had to emergency lo runs half way around Asda but that's just part and parcel of it. If wet knew we were going to be on a long journey or an accident would be unavoidable then we would put a nappy on. The 2 girls were always very quick to it and only had 1-2 accidents but my boys really dragged it out.

If you absolutely must have a solution then can I recommend these from Amazon.

Pack of 20 Prosorb Super Absorbent Disposable Sick/Vomit Bags https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B086CD1M2G/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabc5TE9HT04NM1YJGNRAA1P

We bought them for my youngest daughters travel sickness and found they could easily double up as an emergency pee bag when we were stuck in a rush lock traffic jam for 3 hours. Just dispose of them as soon as you can. Or go old school and just use a potty and empty it into the grass. Bleach spray and kitchen roll?

Just please don't be one of those parents that whips a potty in the super market/ pub/ school assembly/drs waiting room 🤮

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 04/01/2022 21:33

I really don't think that it's fine to use a potty while walking through a housing estate.

mammabear67 · 04/01/2022 21:34

Travel potty with a lid that closes. Best option for the environment and easy! I have twins and ours can hold a couple of weeks from each of them.
We had a mycarrypotty and it was fab!

Completely agree. Taking a potty was never even considered and the whole thing was over in a couple of weeks.

nervousseacreature · 04/01/2022 21:35

I used this too, it was v handy and great that it doubles as a toilet seat. Think the brand name one is a Potette but I got a cheaper copy of it on Amazon. You can buy biodegradable bags to use with it. We don’t use it loads now but it is handy

Something like this

We've got the ladybird carry potty. It has been really useful when at the park or somewhere similar. If we're anywhere near a toilet though I'll make sure we use that, or on a walk in the woods, she'll have a nature wee. Always handy knowing you've got a carry potty in the boot though or under the pushchair.
