Hamster has chewed out of her cage!

I have a very sweet female hamster who in the space of one night managed to chew her way out of her cage and was found running around our spare bedroom. Shock

The hole is impressive. I don’t know how she managed to chew through plastic. We have had other hamsters in a similar cage and not one has ever chewed their way out.

Hamster is currently living in our utility room which luckily is escape proof but not ideal. I have spent ages researching other cages but they are all tiny and most plastic.

Any ideas on alternative cages? The problem is now that she has been running free she has become quite feral, I just picked her up for a cuddle and she made the most awful screeching noise.

Can you keep a hamster in a tank? A big one with room for toys and its bed ? Hamsters can be very very chewy - I once made the mistake of leaving my uni scarf leaning against hamsters cage - next time I looked, hamster had a blue fluffy next and my scarf had a huge hole Grin

Not sure how much space you have but IKEA do a large glass one. Very chew proof and recommended by hamster owners.

Look up vivarium. They are the tanks people keep snakes in and might be suitable.

It's the ikea Detolf I think. This article says more smallfurryfriend.com/9-recommended-hamster-cages/
