Happy new year!
Feel a bit silly for not knowing but.. I want to change my surname , and was wondering how I would go about doing this on my birth certificate once it's legally done , as when I research it only comes up with changing the surname of a child but not as an adult.

You can’t change your surname on your birth certificate.

Legally you can just tell companies etc. that from now on you will be known as Firstname Newsurname, although some can be a bit awkward without a deed poll. You will still have to give your past surname(s) when asked if you’ve been known by different names, going forward.

Find a deed poll template (don't waste money on these companies that make you pay) send off to passport office/dvla to sort that out and then repeat the process with every company, bank account etc requesting a name change and give your deed poll as proof. I did it a couple of years ago and it's a faff with all the companies etc sending it off, but was worth it.
