Bought a mattress I’m in agony DH loves it

We’ve had it about a month and I’m in agony every day and can’t sleep.
DH has gone from agony with our old one to sleeping well.
So we are at a stalemate. Has anyone got any solutions? I’m considering a soft single topper for my side. But I’m not sure if this will work, what one to get if any sheets will fit on my princess and the pea bed.

Two single mattresses on the double bed?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 03/01/2022 19:01

Please don’t be in agony over a mattress! We had this and ended up getting a third we were both happy with!!

BigYellowHat · 03/01/2022 19:06

Most big stores will take them back. We’re just about to get a Zip and link bed from Bensons for Bed. It’s basically two singles zipped together and you can choose two which are different firmness if required.

I added an egg box memory foam mattress topper off amazon. Made such a difference

FreeFrenchHens · 03/01/2022 19:37

is it a bed in a box that you can return?

I think if anyone's in agony it has to go! How can your DH be happy to leave you in pain?!

FrenchBoule · 03/01/2022 19:57

Separate beds.

No point in suffering, looks like you’re incompatible in bed Grin

EvilPea · 03/01/2022 20:14

Thank you all for the replies.
It’s an emma one. So can be returned, if need be. He’s so happy though...

I’d assumed it was the sleeping well making him happy. Maybe it’s not that, and his happiness is down to karma for me getting on with the old one when he was in pain. Grin

The egg box foam topper sounds like a good try, if that doesn’t work the zip one might be a goer.
I’m rubbish at trying a mattress in a shop. You lie on it in a shop but it bares no resemblance to how you sleep.

We have a half and half from Dreams. It's isn't even a zipped one. We went on their computer bed and it analysed what we each needed.

boymum88 · 03/01/2022 20:20

We went through this old one giving Dh back ache so got an Emma both not keen made my already bad back worse, tired a simba again not brill, so went for a temper both really happy with it.
Send it back and keep trying till you find one you both find comfy

OrangeShark27 · 03/01/2022 20:21

Send it back and get a half and half one ASAP.

You can't sleep on a bed when you are in agony ffs. What is it that's painful?

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 03/01/2022 20:27

Don’t compromise on this op, they let you try them out for 100 days for a reason. I’m at this stalemate with a sofa. DH is ridiculously tall and all the sofas he finds comfortable I find incredibly ugly, but totally understand that I need to put his comfort above my desire for a beautiful sofa. We have zip link mattresses on a superking bed and it works well for us. I don’t think I could sleep comfortably long term on a memory foam mattress, I’ve tried for a few days when we were away and I found they made my bad back worse.

FreeFrenchHens · 03/01/2022 20:28

When we bought our Emma, if you ring them up to return they offered you a mattress topper for free, to adjust the firmness. If they still do that you could try that, and cut the topper in half.

Our Emma feels nice but I do think it's bad for my back. A very shallow pillow helps.

Carrieannallee · 03/01/2022 20:38

I hated our new kingsize, it was too firm for me so I got a single latex topper off eBay and now I'm fine!

EvilPea · 03/01/2022 20:52

It’s the lack of support on my lower back and hips that’s the biggest problem. It’s also making my shoulders ache as well.
Emma’s website blurb goes on about how good they are for backs.
My guess is it’s the gaps that aren’t being supported.

@YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie Don’t start me on the sofa problem. I’m small. He’s tall. I threatened single chairs as the solution.
Cars, that’s another one.

@FreeFrenchHens oooh I wonder if they still do that.

Computer beds Shock how do they know?!?

@EvilPea truly, they should make the constant furniture compromises of the future part of the vows when you marry someone so tall. It’s been such an issue for us. We’ve spent the weekend shopping for sofas and I could scream. We’re going to end up with something neither of us really likes and spend several grand for the privilege Confused
