Hi everyone

Husband and I are in desperate need of a getaway without the kids. It’s been a very long time since we done anything together away from the kids.

It would be for 1-2 nights, has to be in the UK, could travel by train or car but I know he would prefer train, nice scenery, probably go self catering so not fussed about restaurants.

I’m thinking Lake District… any other suggestions please? Haven’t done this in a long time and don’t even know where to start!

Where are you based OP? For only a couple of nights you don’t want to be travelling for hours and hours to get there

Based in Scotland

Any suggestions welcome especially of locations that people have been to and would recommend

The Scottish Borders are beautifully romantic. Nice little B&Bs, country walks and peace and quiet. Probably not the best weather at the moment. Edinburgh is wonderful this time of year also

We loved the Isle of Mull, Iona in particular but the weather might be horrific at this time of year!

We have booked Brimstone Hotel in the Lakes for our honeymoon this year but we love luxury hotels/spas/restaurants. If it’s not peak season Windermere is a great base as a town for a bit of a mooch/nice cafes etc.
