I want to cancel my subscription as I'm economising but I have 4 credits left to use. I like most genre's and I'd really appreciate recommendations. Thanks

I've just started Mariam Margoyle's book, she's hilarious.

Really also enjoyed Michael MacIntyre's new one too, made me laugh out loud as I was driving.

My favourite book of last year was 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' so I definitely recommend that.

I really enjoyed Hamnet as an audiobook, and also The Island Hime by Libby Page. The Girl Before was excellent as an audiobook too

AnnaSW1 · 03/01/2022 12:12

Have you read Richard Osman's two books? They are great on audible

Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is fantastic & the audiobook is brilliantly narrated.

Treecreature · 03/01/2022 12:15

I loved Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, if you like a bit of light hearted sci-fi.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 03/01/2022 12:16

JK Rowling Strike novels are amazing and brilliantly read.

Antony Horowitz, not his Sherlock, The Word is Murder and the follow ups.

MaudebeGonne · 03/01/2022 12:17

I thought The Actress by Anne Enright was lovely on Audible.

devildeepbluesea · 03/01/2022 12:18

The Appeal by, umm, Janice someone? I really enjoyed it, plus Jake's Strike and Osman's books, which PP have recommended

NewYearCalavicci · 03/01/2022 12:32

I love the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher read by James Marsters but there are about 17 books ( each one is standalone ) so you may end up resubscribing !

Or Bill Bryson, he also has a lot of books out , my fav is notes from a small island.

Or Gerald durral, again lots out there by him but My Family And Other Animals is the best imo

Shmithecat2 · 03/01/2022 12:35

Seconding the Miriam Margolyes book, it's brilliant.

coodawoodashooda · 03/01/2022 12:39

Gary Barlow's autobiography

Pashazade · 03/01/2022 12:43

I really enjoyed Poirot and Me by David Suchet.

Freddofan · 03/01/2022 12:54

Michelle Obama’s ‘Becoming’ - she reads it herself and it’s an interesting and sometimes humorous insight into her life, education and the Presidency. One of my favourite autobiographies.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 03/01/2022 16:15

@NewYearCalavicci I’ve just downloaded the 1st in the series based on your recommendation as I’m looking for something new so thank you 😊

@OneForTheRoadThen I can really recommend the Wolf Hall trilogy, well worth the credits!

NewYearCalavicci · 03/01/2022 17:45

@TwoBigNoisyBoys , the Dresden files ?
I am on book 10 ( I think ) I love them ,
The fact that they are all narrated by James Marsters
( Spike from Buffy ) means that you get use to his delivery and the dry humour. I really hope you enjoy the books

If anyone likes wizard / vampire / ghouls then give the books ago , this is about as far from Harry Potter as you can get Grin

Egghead68 · 03/01/2022 17:49

Miriam margolyes
Bob Mortimer
Second richard Osman

OneForTheRoadThen · 03/01/2022 17:54

Thank you all for your recommendations! I have the Richard Osman books so I chose the Wolf Hall Trilogy as I loved the tv show and The Affair as it looked really interesting.

Just a tip if you like audiobooks but don't want to pay, BorrowBox is a free lending service you join via your local library membership.

I use only that now - range of books is obvs much smaller than amazon but you get them on a free download for 10 days.

Perfect!

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 03/01/2022 17:58

@OneForTheRoadThen glad you picked that, it’s hours long so you really feel like you’ve fit your money’s worth if that makes sense? I’ve listened to the whole trilogy twice, it’s so enjoyable 😊

@NewYearCalavicci yes, that’s the one 😊 just started this afternoon, sounds good so far, so thank you 😊

AnnaSW1 · 03/01/2022 18:34

I'm halfway through the first one. If you like those, you should try The Appeal.
