There is a street lamp over the back from me, not sure if that makes a whole colony tweet merrily, but it's happening!

I’m awake because of tge gusts of winds that are making bump noises Shock but I know that very soon the birds will be doing their thing! Bit later here…

Urgh I hate these creaks in the house!

Jellybean100 · 03/01/2022 04:36

Was the same here at 2.30, I even googled why the bloody birds were tweeting. Still going now!

WeaverofWords · 03/01/2022 04:39

😁 And why do they?

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 03/01/2022 04:40

I'm awake from jet a la lag.

Ahh - not sure if early morning singing is classed as dawn chorus:

All birds, whether diurnal or nocturnal, are governed by the daily rhythm of light and dark. ... It is thought that dawn chorus happens because birds wake up before there is enough light for them to feed and so they focus on singing instead

They are on Twitter.

Seriously, a combination of events can lead to an early dawn chorus. Unusually warm weather, street lights or floodlights more intense than normal, disturbance. All it needs is one or two birds to start and they can go off. Normally it’s robins that do it, or blackbirds or nightingales. Right next to my bedroom window over 100 birds are roosting in a large clump of bushes. They are quite now, but have been waking around 8:15.

Oooh very interesting! Thank you, both, for these facts!

TwoAndCooPlease · 03/01/2022 06:07

Started here yesterday early hours
I've not missed them

Deathraystare · 03/01/2022 07:27

Yeah mine started at 2.30 and have done for some time. I don't mind as I am awake anyway. Preferable to the idiots yelling at each other I hear all the time:( Normally hear a dog fox screaming too but I don't mind because I know what it is. My Canadian friend was surprised that I can hear one in deepest darkest err...West London, but one once followed me down the road early one morning, then popped into a cafe and looked around with a puzzled expression on his face while the guy behind the counter was laughing at him!
