Post concussion symptoms

Hoping someone else has been through this because I am just really miserable. Last month I fell in the shower and hit my head. I don't think I was even knocked out - or if I was it was for no more than a second or two - but I felt quite out of it afterwards so 111 send me to A&E to be checked over, where they determined I had a minor concussion - so minor they didn't even feel I needed to be scanned but told me to come back if I started having any other symptoms. About a week later I was still feeling quite sick and dizzy and my memory was shot to shit so they sent me for a CT scan to make sure I didn't have a bleed on the brain or anything. All fine.

Since then I've had ongoing symptoms - my concentration is shot, my memory is shot, constant dizzy episodes, headaches, serious irritability and episodes of feeling really low. I spoke to a GP just before Christmas who said it might be post concussion syndrome and they couldn't do anything except watch and wait. I've been told it might go on for months.

I can't believe that this could happen through something so completely innocuous. Honestly I almost didn't even go into hospital, I really thought 111 were overreacting - it was that minor.

Has anyone else had this? Did your symptoms go? I'm due to go back to work next week (I'm freelance) and I can't see how I'm going to be able to manage. It took me ages just to type this out.

Bit late OP, but a family member has this and has similar symptoms to you. CT scan clear but she's really struggling three months on with post concussion syndrome. Have you gone back to your GP?

See if you can be referred to a vestibular physio who can also check your neck. It can be really helpful in post concussion.

Yep. I did. Took me a few months to feel mostly normal and a year or to stop feeling very protective of my head! The smallest knock (boisterous toddlers at the time) would bring symptoms back. I had scans and they couldn’t see anything to worry about but my experience was it took a while to recover.

It took me a while to get over concussion, at one point I was walking sideways, but it did go eventually. I promise you it will pass, it only happened last month. Just take care of yourself.
