Why do I put off/delay/dread good things in my life?

If I had it my way, exciting days (birthdays, Christmasses, holidays) would just be delayed indefinitely, so I could live in the suspense and anticipation instead.

I went shopping recently and bought myself a lovely purse from Mulberry. It's been sitting in its bag unopened for 5 days now. I also have unopened parcels just sitting there of things I had been looking forward to being delivered (some new shoes).

Does anyone else do this? I don't understand it

I do it but have not the foggiest why!

Did you have an early experience of a big disappointment?
The hopeful part therefore feels the safest?

Because your ADHD needs the dopamine drip feed of the anticipation I would imagine. That's why I do it anyway.

Yep. Same here. It's almost gone away since my ADHD started being medicated.

Fear of success? A belief you aren’t worth it?? A belief that once this nice thing will happen that will be it??? Go get some CBT -

Same as not answering texts to people I really want to speak to
