Does anyone have any coping strategies? I get so nervous which is a large part of the problem. Spiral roundabouts…also an issue but I think I have it sussed now.

Anyone else who failed a few times want to tell me how they got through it eventually?

If I fail again I’m looking at a long wait for the next one 🤦‍♀️

Went into the left lane of a roundabout thinking I could go straight ahead, but I should have went into my the middle lane, there were 3 lanes in this instance.

Commiserations OP.
I'm booked for my test in March at the grand old age of 40.
My test centre is in a City and there's a busy area with lots of lanes that I always do wrong. I'm not feeling very confident.

You'll get there though and so will I!

Oh OP I'm sorry!

Don't give up! I passed SEVENTH (yes you read that right!) time. It took me so long I had to redo my theory because the first one expired Confused

I've had a license for fifteen years and (believe it or not) I am a safe, confident driver. I was just horribly nervous and made stupid mistakes.

Rescue remedy saved me! Placebo effect or not, it worked.

Oh bummer😞 I passed on my 5th. I hated learning and tests (obviously) but I love driving, its a completely different experience.

When it comes to roundabouts look at them as a an open junction you just have to give way to vehicles on the right.

Pace yourself, deep breaths. Don't let other drivers put you off. I like the "driving and elderly passenger" advice.

Better luck next time 💐

I managed to book another test for 2 weeks today. Urgh. Maybe next time!

I passed fourth time by doing visualisation exercises and tapping.

MissMinutes24 · 05/01/2022 21:41

Wishing you luck for the next one!

Sorry to hear. But it’s great that you aren’t giving up and have another test booked in soon. Try and forget about it for a few days.

Pumpkinstace · 05/01/2022 21:52

Try and book the test for about 11am.

8am-10am is rush hour and school run. 12-2 is lunch rush. 2.30-4pm is afternoon school rush and as soon as that ends your back to normal evening rush hour, then it's dark.

I passed fifth attempt! DH said he wouldn't agree to a third child until I passed, he was sorry of joking but it did motivate me to keep persevering!

If it makes you feel better… passing or failing doesn’t equate to being a good driver or not. I passed on my 3rd try in the U.K.

But I wasn’t a new driver. Nope, I had been driving for decades by that point. I had to get a UK license as my US license wasn’t valid once I became a resident after 6 months. So I passed the written bit easy peasy, took a couple of months of driving lessons to “learn how to drive for the test” as I joked…. And failed spectacularly twice because I’d get so nervous and anxious.

What helped me with my nerves was (1) my driving instructor would pretend to be my examiner and stay quiet for part of the lesson so I didn’t feel so anxious having someone next to me literally judging my every move and (2) I would talk it out under my breath. As in ok, I’m coming up to a busy area, I’m scanning the sidewalk, ok need to switch lanes, no one in my mirror etc….. it calmed me down and it avoided sitting in an uncomfortable silent moments with the examiner.

How did you get on OP?

alwaystiredlol · 24/01/2022 21:01

I failed numerous times once I failed for going 'too slow' I had my test, I had to switch to automatic driving in the end and passed! Hope all went well today Thanks

I passed on my fifth!! You can do it.

I had my instructor sat in the back and even though he couldn't say or do anything, it was very reassuring for me.

RoseGold24 · 24/01/2022 21:10

I passed on my 4th test many years ago! Since you can't get beta blockers, I'd avoid caffeine beforehand and try some mindfulness to try to reduce anxiety. 4th time's a charm, good luck!

PurBal · 24/01/2022 21:11

I passed fourth time, driving my own car for the test rather than my instructors helped. Wishing you luck!

SomewhereOnlyIKnow · 24/01/2022 21:14

@backaftera2yearbreak

Well. I failed. Again 🙄
Keep going, don’t give up ! You will pass one day 💐
