Did anyone see the hilarious London fireworks coverage on Sky News last night?

I can't stop laughing about this. Sky had it in their head that there would be fireworks around the South Bank following Khan's earlier announcement, having not been told the display was a Greenwich.

So followed 10 minutes of confused shaky camera panning around the south bank and on the shard and on random people who also seemed to believe fireworks would happen on the South Bank. The presenter left their mic on and kept saying "is that it".

Sky actually had the BBC feed initially and then cut it.

Some passerby screamed clearly in the mic "The BBC are cunts". They then moved to Cardiff showing one firework set off at Cardiff bay and then Edinburgh where a pissed up drunk jumped into the camera shouted "fuck her in the pussy" and the presenter said "brilliant atmosphere and bad jokes here" as 13 year old busker played the bagpipes.

At 12.30 they showed the Greenwich display, saying "courtesy of BBC events"

It's made my year already.

Omg brilliant! What a cock up.

Flapjacker48 · 01/01/2022 12:30

Also the desperate arse covering from the reporter on the ground that the London fireworks were "brief but beautiful" (referring to the couple on the millennium bridge) and saying the display is based "at many places across London" to cover up the fact they were not at Greenwich.

🤣🤣didn’t see it but wish I had!

Justmuddlingalong · 01/01/2022 12:42

Yes. It was a bit of a damp squib. I've seen more impressive displays from pulling off an acrylic jumper.

You obviously watched on Sky, amazing on the BBC.

We watched the Sky tv coverage of New Zealand's new year and they clearly thought there would be a display and they just lit up the bridge, we laughed so hard as the presenter said I won't talk over the countdown but then there wasn't one.

We tuned into BBC for our new year which was good.

ShirleyPhallus · 01/01/2022 12:49

The coverage was so awfully brilliant Grin

Flapjacker48 · 01/01/2022 12:52

Maybe Sadiq Khan hates sky hence didn't pass on the info.

I wish i had seen that instead of the actual BBC coverage. Which I switched off in the end as they kept cutting in with some annoying choir singing stuff.

I just wanted to see the fireworks, it's the only reason I watch it 🤨

danni0509 · 01/01/2022 13:16

^ Yes to the choir. (No offence to them) I turned it off 5 past 12 and went to bed.

I preferred last years lights to what they had on last night.

Flapjacker48 · 01/01/2022 13:38

The actual display was average too. Very disjointed.

I've seen better camerawork on many many family home videos. The camera work!!! Oh my goodness....what on God's green earth was up with that????? It was amateur hour.
That said, the Reuters feed that was being carried live on Twitter stopped with the live video feed (i.e. it froze) but the sound kept going, at about 11:55 so the image of Elizabeth Tower and the sound of Big Ben ringing out were out of sync with each other. Also very poor.

Inastatus · 01/01/2022 14:03

Brilliant! 😂

Yeah that was a bit annoying. Just give me the fireworks!!
stiltonandcrackers · 01/01/2022 14:14

stiltonandcrackers · 01/01/2022 14:14

CagneyNYPD1 · 01/01/2022 14:16

I loved the choir at The Globe.

MirrorMirrorApplePie · 01/01/2022 14:20

Flapjacker48 · 01/01/2022 21:26

So had we watched BBC, we'd have seen something better? (Which wouldn't be difficult Grin)

Flapjacker48 · 01/01/2022 21:55

@Crunchymum well the actual London firework display, but that seems to have had very mixed reviews. But for unintentional laughs the sky coverage was brilliant.
