Hi just need some advice. Phoned the 111 service at 7pm this evening about a health condition and was told a clinician would call me back but obviously they couldn't say when. What time should I wait until for a call/when do they close and stop calling back? I'm feeling unwell and tired and worried if I fall asleep I'll miss the call! Thanks you!

I had one call back about two hours later about 1am and another time about 8 hours later which was 3 am . I missed the call but they called me back in morning .

We've had call backs right through the night. With it being NYE I would expect the wait is quite long sorry. Hope you feel better soon, I would probably try to sleep and turn your phone up loudly.

I once rang for my 3 year old at 4pm was promised a call back in 2 hours and finally had a call back at 3am. I missed it as I was asleep so left a voicemail saying that they presume all is well now as I hadn't answered!

Depends how busy they are, could take an hour, 6 hours maybe 12.

We don't close it's a 24/7 service. You'll get a call back but it's insanely busy, if you have any new or worsening symptoms or you're concerned then call 111 back

Thanks everyone, very reassuring! I was just worried that if I miss the call then it's game over to discuss the issue and I'll have to start the entire process over again. Fingers crossed.

I called 111 on Boxing Day and spoke to the call handler, a nurse, a second nurse and then a callback from the out of hours GP within 45 mins.

Hi - I had this problem on 27/12. The first call I made I was told I would get a call back. However, I was not told that I was on a 12hr wait. I phoned back 2hr later, waited an hour on hold, then was told of the 12hr wait. They reassessed, and I was put on a 6hr list. I insisted that my child needed a call back far quicker, and the second call handler, luckily managed to get me a call back in around 15 mins - resulting in an OOH appointment, then into A&E where my child was admitted for 2 nights due to a very serious infection.

The outcome could have been very different if I hadn't called back. If you are very concerned about yourself, and have access to a second phone, then find out what your wait time is by calling back. I wish I had understood the call back timescales on the first call.
Hope this helps x
