I'm looking for something new to try each month next year. They don't have to be big things but I need to do something for me after a very difficult break up. Any ideas gratefully received.

I'm going to go rollerskating, and also to an Ice Hockey match if that helps?

MeredithMae · 31/12/2021 18:47

I'm going to join the WI!

user1471511336 · 31/12/2021 19:00

Thought of another one;
Learn to cook a few more 'go to' recipes to stop me sticking to the usual trusted ones - maybe work my way through a new vegetarian / vegan cook book.

WakeUpLockie · 31/12/2021 19:00

Bake/cook a favourite dish?
A certain diy job that you haven’t done before and needs doing?
Watercolours?

ISpyCobraKai · 31/12/2021 19:04

Also, see an Opera, and Ballet.
(At the cinema, most do one off showings of them).

hopeful777 · 31/12/2021 19:10

what a lovely idea!

-Going to a concert? (I’ve never heard Four seasons live before and thought it would push me to try different things)

  • a virtual reality experience (they do some in Camden/battersea)
  • climb a mountain (snowden/scaffell pike)
  • cookery/baking course
  • pottery class
  • learning to knit and donating hats for neonatal units
  • read a classic book (I’ve just downloaded middlemarch)

Anything that makes you smile.. just do it! I hope the new year brings you hope and happiness 😊

Geocaching

A week where you only eat vegan, or maybe vegetarian if you’re a big meat eater currently

Dry ski slope beginners lesson

Cook something from scratch you usually but or have never cooked. I was pleased with myself when I made a Bakewell tart!

Cook something from a cuisine you don’t usually. Eg Jewish, Mexican, Russian etc etc

Make sushi

Do a YouTube exercise class. Loads and loads for free.

Yoga with Adrianne is often recommended on here (on YouTube too).

Download a stargazing app and do some stargazing. You can get ones which as you move around your device it show you exactly what you should be looking at

Yika · 31/12/2021 19:30

This was my 2020 New Years resolution. Do something exciting and new every month. It didn’t work out as I’d hoped....

Fire walking/ other hippie shite.
Festival
Glamping or wild camping or other overnight adventure (maybe by canoe/big walk-in-walk-out).
Water ski/ sailing/ white water rafting / abseiling/ climbing wall/ ice skating/ etc lesson(s)
Fly fishing or birdwatching or something quiet and “in nature”
Solo canoe or kayak trip or longer distance walk somewhere a bit wilder.
Craft - eg knit a jumper or felt a picture or embroider something or pottery or learn to arrange flowers or whatever.
Run a 5k / 10k/ marathon.
Something to improve your living space - eg redo part of garden, or grow a pot or window box from seed, or repaint a room, or insulate the loft of whatever.
Keep a diary
Learn a musical instrument (ukelele? Something straightforward and not too expensive).
Learn to cook a new cuisine or bake or whatever.

Axe throwing

Dumbledoresgirl · 31/12/2021 21:10

Ds and I are trying vegetarianism for January. Veganuary doesn't appeal but a month of no meat (or less meat) seems doable.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 31/12/2021 21:12

Go to the theatre alone. It's great!

Cook a new type of cuisine eg Thai or Moroccan

I'm buying a bike. Haven't had one for 20 years

Todaythiscouldbe · 01/01/2022 19:07
