Help - forgotten to pick up medication from pharmacy today and now it’s closed until Tues.

My DH is on Sertraline and he’s only got 1 tablet left for today. I was supposed to pick it up from the pharmacy today and I’ve totally forgotten! It’s an electronic repeat prescription and it won’t be open again until Tues.

Is there anything we can do? We ordered it in good time before Christmas and it’s totally my fault for forgetting as I said I would get it…

I'd speak to 111 and see if they can advise. It might be possible for an OOH Dr to issue a prescription which could be collected from an alternative pharmacy that's open.

I don’t suppose you have any close friends or family on the same meds/dosage? I know it’s not allowed but you just need a few days.

there must be a 24/7 pharmacy open. If its electronic repeat can it be returned to the spine and re-downloaded by another pharmacy? Not sure what's possible.

Tibtab · 31/12/2021 18:45

You can get an emergency supply at a different pharmacy. Check the opening hours of other pharmacies as they may be on reduced hours tomorrow.

AllYouCanEatBrestaurant · 31/12/2021 18:46

Definitely call 111 I believe they have an option to talk to a pharmacist. They will advise how to get it.

Vanillaradio · 31/12/2021 18:48

I have done this before. 111 will sort it for you- in my case it was on Easter Sunday! They gave me an appointment at a medical centre where an out of hours doc wrote me a prescription and then handed me a leaflet for which pharmacies were open to get it from.

Namechangedforspooky · 31/12/2021 18:49

Yep 111 can arrange for a prescription to go to a pharmacy for collection
I only know this as we often get people turning up in A&E out of hours for similar reasons.
It’s a not a stock drug so not one we can dispense unfortunately.

Elliemayclampett · 31/12/2021 18:51

Are you sure they are closed? Tomorrow is a normal working day for my pharmacy. The bank
Holiday is on Monday

TheLadyofChristmasPast · 31/12/2021 18:51

If it's been dispensed then it won't be able to be put back on the spine, they would need a new script unfortunately. Nightmare for you OP, I've had my own struggles with prescriptions recently, completely ran out of my diabetes medication over Christmas due to their large backlogs, took over two weeks to even get dispensed and by then it was Christmas Eve and I didn't get there in time 😢 hope you manage to get it sorted, definitely try 111, out of hours should be able to get you an urgent script
Ilikewinter · 31/12/2021 18:54

Just go to a pharmacy and explain the situation, they wont be able to give DH his full prescription because it will be assigned to the pharmacy and that pharmacy has to release it - which they can't do as they are closed - but the pharmacist can give you an emergency supply, enough tablets to see DH through to Tuesday. DH will need to give the pharmacist permission to check his medical records.

Deafdonkey · 31/12/2021 18:55

Please be aware that there is withdrawal with setraline (depending on the dose) hope.111 sorts you out.

Ilikewinter · 31/12/2021 18:59

Theres no need to ring 111, unless they refer you to an OOH doctor. If they refer you to the pharmacy they give the Pharmacist no details, the pharmacist will need to call you to find out whats wrong and what you need. By the time youve faffed around doing all this you could just go straight to the pharmacy!

TheLadyofChristmasPast · 01/01/2022 13:27

We went to Tesco Pharmacy and the guy said we needed to ring 111 first. Whilst my DH was on hold to 111 I rang another pharmacy who said just come down to the shop.

He was really lovely and sorted it.

Glad you got it sorted OP 😊

Alysskea · 01/01/2022 16:20

Can confirm 111 will sort you out :) they'll find an emergency pharmacy and send a prescription there
