Feel so rough before periods

ClemDanFango · 31/12/2021 18:26

Does anyone else experience the following before a period?

Dizziness
Sweats
Muscle aches
Shivers
Raised temp but not an actual fever
Sluggish/Lethargic
Sleepy
Nauseous
Headache

I never used to get these symptoms. The past year, every month 3-5 days before my period comes I feel like I’m coming down with something then my period starts and like magic I feel immediately better.

I’m almost 40, is this just what happens as we get older? It’s really pissing me off!

Anyone else?

Yep yep and yep. 41 nearly 42 and noticed this the last year probably. Hopefully someone wiser will come along with more insight just wanted to say not just you OP. Love the username by the way Grin

FitnessKeepItGoing · 31/12/2021 18:41

Magnesium, exercise and cutting out carbs meant to help
Sorry it’s rubbish I know from experience

ClemDanFango · 31/12/2021 20:31

Thanks Cornishbelle and FitnessKeepItGoing seems it’s a ‘thing’ will try to lessen carbs and see how I go 😩

Yep totally and also in 40’s… add to that list tingling and numbness in hands and migraines… I think this is the start of peri-menopause ladies!! 😖

ScarlettDarling · 31/12/2021 20:38

No but I feel like this in the week leading up to ovulation along with crippling anxiety and terrible low mood. Hideous. It started a year ago when I came off the pill. I thought it would settle but if anything it’s getting worse.
You have my sympathy😔

SpacePotato · 31/12/2021 20:38

Add in 3 days of slipping between complete insomnia and vivid dreams plus hulk like rage and constant hunger and I'm with you.

Coincided with the start of peri menopause for me.

User48751490 · 31/12/2021 20:39

Get terribly bloated one week before.

User48751490 · 31/12/2021 20:40

Terrible mood swings.

User48751490 · 31/12/2021 20:40

You have my sympathies. I am almost 40.

Redwinestillfine · 31/12/2021 20:41

Yup nauseous and exhausted a day before coming on. Early 40's.

Abcdefu · 31/12/2021 20:41

I am 33 and started getting this spoke with a friend who calls it the "period flu" I literally got a pcr test the first 2 times it happened...is this an early menopause sign? I did not know that

Mangofandangoo · 31/12/2021 20:43

Over the late 6 months I've had terrible 'PMS' at the time of ovulation. It's becoming a real problem for my husband

Rosemaryandlemon · 31/12/2021 20:43

Yep literally every month I feel like I’m coming down with an illness (temperature/fever). Covid has been a nightmare because I often to have a pcr because I have a fever for a day.

I have endometriosis and I am not sure if that contributes.

Do you get any other symptoms? Excited to hear from another ovulation PMS sufferer!😂
Mangofandangoo · 31/12/2021 20:59

@ScarlettDarling it's the rage for me, I can't stand to be around anyone. It lasts about 3 days, the cloud lifts and im fine. My poor DH

I feel that exactly like this. Just this longing to be left alone.

JustBkind · 31/12/2021 21:09

I get the same before ovulation too, in fact I reckon I have about ten days per month where I feel relatively ‘normal’ and the rest, pretty rubbish really!! 😢

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 31/12/2021 21:16

I get some of those plus:

Crippling anxiety
I can't make decisions
I get very clumsy
I get S ideation
It feels like I'm wading through treacle
Incredibly hot one minute
Freezing cold the next
I could win an eating competition
Extreme tiredness
I cry a lot
Epic mood swings

The lasts two weeks before my period, the second it starts, I'm a different person. Confused

PaddleBoardingMomma · 31/12/2021 21:21

Yes!

I have had this since I was 15, I'm now 32 and the only time I have had any reprieve from it is during pregnancy 😩

The lightheadedness / dizziness, feeling exhausted and moody, added with that feeling you get JUST before you come down with the flu... it's horrible and lasts a solid week before my period comes and a few days into it. It's miserable. Oh and the hunger!

Hormones I think? Although when I was doing keto it was more manageable but cutting out the carbs when you're an exhausted miserable hungry mess is so so hard.

Anyway, basically you're not alone xx

ClemDanFango · 01/01/2022 12:04

Sorry so many of you are experiencing similar or worse Sad feels like half of each month is spent feeling like utter shit for lots of us. 😩

Comedycook · 01/01/2022 12:07

The day before my period, I feel like death. A horrendous headache usually and so exhausted I can barely function and really miserable...as soon as I get it, I feel normal again. It's actually horrendous.

rocky1914 · 01/01/2022 12:11

Yes! I get every single one of these symptoms before my period. Absolute nightmare. And it only started after I had my first child. Weird.

I also get the most painful.. I can't even describe them as cramps.. it's like a stabbing pain that travels up my vagina all the way through to my womb (sorry for the tmi!)

Always happens on or around the 2nd day of my period and it literally feels like I'm dying. It happened yesterday and my DH looked genuinely scared 😩 I kept hollering in pain and my DD was like "mummy are you alright?", tapping me on the back and saying "hello? Am I talking to myself?" 🤣🤣 which she definitely got from me 😩🤦‍♀️

I mean, I'm laughing but should I be worried? 🤷‍♀️

Player456 · 01/01/2022 12:22

I've had this (especially migraines and fluey symptoms), for the last 12 years. Dizziness (even when sitting and just moving my eyes), for the last 7yrs. I will be 52 next month, so it may go on for a while younger ladies Flowers

PaddleBoardingMomma · 01/01/2022 20:07

In regards to the dizziness, is it more of a swaying lightheaded feeling for most or a spinning sensation?

Starrr123 · 11/03/2023 22:07

@ClemDanFango how are u now ? Has anything helped xx
