I care for my disabled sister. She was complaining of pain when passing urine. I have test strips as I had a time where I kept getting utis. The test strip has come back as having a moderate level of leukocytes but everything else is fine. Could this still be a uti

Yes it could. Are you able to get a sample and get the nurses to test it and send it off and ask if she needs antibiotics. Is she drinking plenty to flush her urine.

I'm not sure but you can go to the GP (without appointment) and ask if they will send off a sample for you.

It could but, unless a totally clean capture, it could also just be contamination.

Or just drop off at the surgery

I get that it’s a sample pot for urine but the technique of collecting the sample can often result in contamination.

If you are using the very fist bit then there can often be contamination, that’s why it’s generally a mid stream urine sample that’s requested to send to lab to check for a UTI.

What is a mid-stream urine sample?
A mid-stream urine sample means you don't collect the first or last part of urine that comes out. This reduces the risk of the sample being contaminated with bacteria from:
your hands
the skin around the urethra, the tube that carries urine out of the body

“Clean capture technique”

Clean catch urine sample
Sit on the toilet with your legs spread apart. Use two fingers to spread open your labia.
Use the first wipe to clean the inner folds of the labia. Wipe from the front to the back.
Use a second wipe to clean over the opening where urine comes out (urethra), just above the opening of the vagina.
To collect the urine sample:
Keeping your labia spread open, urinate a small amount into the toilet bowl, then stop the flow of urine.
Hold the urine cup a few inches (or a few centimeters) from the urethra and urinate until the cup is about half full.
You may finish urinating into the toilet bowl.
