My MIL has folded all my thongs into a pile of teeny tiny triangles and I think it may be the straw that makes me lose my shit...

Light hearted, kind off...

In-laws arrived on the 26th, they hired a cottage near by (their choice) but have so far spent all day every day with us...

MIL doesn’t really get the art of discussion and likes to speak about her childhood in monologue a LOT, quite often we can have good 20 minute stories where no one else is able to speak and with 3 DD’s it makes it tricky.

She also likes to re tell stories...

Mil “did I tell you about the time”

Every else “yes you told us about that”

Mil “retells the story which last 25 minutes”

Every story begins a very small throat clear and then a pursed lip pause for dramatic effect which makes me want to stick a knife in my eyeball!!

She is only late 50’s so can’t even blame it on being old and dithery...

Today she has take it upon herself to go into our washing basket in our bedroom,while we had nipped out, has washed all my delicates and I’ve came back to a thong tower, all folded into identical triangles...

Please tell me I’m not the only one on the edge with having relatives staying?!

I can imagine my MIL doing that, it's such an intrusion!
I give you full permission to tell them it's time for them to leave and crack open a bottle of wine!

To be fair I'd happily take someone doing my washing right now 🤣 should of said did you not do the ironing as well 🤣🤣

My mum tells the same stories all the time, I can recite them all it's draining. Hopefully they go soon xx

Why can't I have a mother or mil that comes and cleans? Over lockdown I've been guilty of retelling stories, I think. Nothing new has happened.

OMG at thong tower!
Having said that my BIL similarly emptied my laundry basket of pants, from my room, and put them in with his stuff. But he lacks folding skills.

''I was up at 3 in the morning washing my 301 brothers and sisters school clothes when i was only 2 and a half. Scrubbing the clothes using a dead rat'' type stuff.

Oh god, this reminds me of when my mil and sil took it upon themselves to change my bed sheets. Out fell my sexy undies, including suspender belt and stockings Xmas Blush

The 25 minute retelling of old stories would drive me to the edge of reason, but… shortly after our first DC was born my MIL came to stay for a few nights, found our washing basket and washed, dried, folded and put away all our clothes. Knickers, pants, thongs and socks all folded and arranged in neat lines in the drawers like a Sock Shop display.

I liked it so much, I’m still folding them that way 15 years later.

Admit it. You like the triangular thong tower really Wink

Luxury, mine had to walk 35 miles every day just to get to school and the teacher would punish them with a cattle rod.

I wouldnt go anywhere near anyone else's washing though. I do think that is overstepping the mark.

My sils maid folds pants amazingly, I swear it was one of the most joyous times of my life when I saw them.

My FiL was a great one for telling the same stories over and over again. The torture was prolonged because he told them very s l o w l y, with great long pauses between sentences. Ultimately I made sure that I had some complicated knitting or similar to do so that at least I had something to occupy my mind whilst pretending to listen, which made it all a bit less painful but was never a complete remedy.

Fortunately, however, he was too lazy even to try to do any work in his own house, let alone ours.

My mil used to insist on doing our ironing. Fill ya boots pet!!. She ironed pj's and pants. Then ironed and folded dh's work shirts into 10 inch square piles...

I also do this but only my own washing. I won't do anyone elses.

Oh jaysus, are you my brother?! My dm does this all the time ‘I brought up the family from the age of 2’. No, no you didn’t, because you were living with your grandmother at the time as the only child! Drives me nuts.

OP, I would be telling them to stay at their cottage unless you want them round for dinner and to stay the fuck out of your bedroom-massive overstep!

God I feel your pain.

My FIL does nothing but talk about himself & tell the same story over and over again….. 10 years in - he knows absolutely nothing about me, as he doesn’t ask any questions and doesn’t listen. I can’t tell you how many times he has told the same story. Over and over again…….

My own mother can’t sit still and wants to serve (when asked not to). She thinks by doing stuff it is her way of contributing. Last time she stayed with us (despite me asking her not to do any of the ironing after she offered). I came downstairs to discover she had sought the washing basket out (I’d hidden it from her) and she was ironing my OH’s underpants. I shit you not….
