Overnight.... Full fridge. Do you think I need to bin everything? I'd just got steaks and chicken for tonight's dinner too. I could scream!!

Ajar open or like door wide open open?

trumpisagit · 31/12/2021 12:20

I would close the door, and sniff test before you eat.
It will have stayed pretty cold.

Feel the jars and packets to see if they are still cold. Sniff test if OK cook as much as possible and freeze.

I feel your pain! One dimwit in my household got the ice cream out & didn't shut the freezer door properly. Overnight! I had to empty the freezer & pick all the newly formed ice off the trays & the door & scrap all the trays of newly formed ice. Not best pleased! 😬

I’d do the sniff test but pretty much eat everything

Ignore anything in jars - or cheeses/butters.

Milk/cream/meat will let you know instantly.

Pour yourself a nice stiff drink and pretend you never noticed.

That's not true about meat. One of the problems is that people think the bacteria causing food poisoning is detectable by sight or smell. It's often not the case.

OP, the bacteria take time to grow. The sooner you cook the food, the sooner you arrest that growth. Cook it all now for later use.

I'd have closed the door, grumbled briefly about whoever left it open, then not given it a second thought. It will be fine.
