I’ve just had the most bizarre experience/coincidence

And it’s left me feeling so sad. Without giving away too many identifying details (I hope) I volunteer for a telephone helpline charity.

Took a call this morning from someone who’s dh:

• died on the same day (and year) as mine
• died of essentially the same thing
• had his funeral on the same day as my dh
• had the same first name as my dh
• was born in the same month and year as my dh
• had 2 children with the same names as 2 of mine

I mean what are the odds? Of all the calls I could’ve answered? Of all the people she could’ve had answering her call?

I feel really, and strangely, shaken by this.

I’m not allowed to self- disclose so I couldn’t say anything to her about I really, yes really, understood how she felt.

I do the same as you OP and I suspect for the same charity too.

Speak to the on call supervisor and take a time out. I can imagine how unsettling the experience is or you. But remember self care

Yes, we have shift leaders - I think he was as astounded as I was! But I’m feeling much better now thank you - had a medicinal drink or two :)

That’s crazy, I can imagine how unsettling it must have been!
You are an angel for not only doing what you do but to be able to continue supporting someone while keeping it together after hearing such coincidences!

I can imagine that would be very unsettling - bless you for doing the work you do, maybe take a break if you need to in order to process. Look after yourself.
