To ask if you have days where you spend no money

Or do you spend money each day

OP posts:

@PlanktonsComputerWife

Not really. Bread, milk, sugar and bananas always need topping up, and DD is addicted to baguettes at the moment, which only taste good the first day.
Have you tried the part bakes?
Woeismethischristmas · 31/12/2021 10:41

Lots I shop online so gets weekly delivery rather than nip to shops for milk or bread daily. I work in a hotel, get free drinks and a staff meal. I put petrol in the car once a week. Probably manage 4-5 no spend days a week.

felulageller · 31/12/2021 10:49

Looking back through my online bank statement I've only had 4 no spend days in December and those were when I was ill.

I do get frustrated that we seem to spend money every day.

I feel like I'm never out the supermarket, even going 3 times in one day!

We can't seem to leave the house without spending money- even a walk ends up in a coffee/ juice/ petrol/ errand on the way back.

We always seem to need stuff.

felulageller · 31/12/2021 10:50

Btw I saved thousands during lockdown. No shops = no spend

sociallydistained · 31/12/2021 10:52

I haven't been anywhere for the last few days and this is common. I am looking after kids today (3. I'm a nanny) and as a treat we're going to McDonald's (Walking) then the park, so I'll be spending on that but will get that back so technically not spending again. I'm not going shopping until Sunday so I haven't spent from Tuesday (I went to town and Waterstones book sale so certainly spent then) - Sunday.

Days at home are a lifesaver 👌🏼

user1497207191 · 31/12/2021 10:53

Yes, most days I don't spend anything. I'm pretty sure I've not spent any cash at all during December, and looking at my bank & credit card accounts online, I've only used a card a handful of times, once for McDonald's for lunch, once for buying some Christmas cards, twice for a few bits of groceries at the local convenience store. Other than that, the only other "spending" is for the big grocery shopping and half a tank of petrol.

Thepineapplemystery · 31/12/2021 10:54

Yes, if you don't mean utilities/ mortgage expenses which accrue daily.

Christmas day we didn't spend anything. Or boxing day or 27th. Had a takeaway on 28th, 29th bought lunch at lunchtime and yesterday did the food shop. Today I've bought DD some underwear.

I'd say about 3-4 days per week I don't spend anything.

PositiveLife · 31/12/2021 10:54

I have loads. Do a weekly shop and only occasionally need to top up. Plenty of activities are paid for via a yearly or monthly membership fee.
My main spending is the teens wanting snacks/cafe trip with mates.

vroomvroomwheelie · 31/12/2021 10:55

I wish!

Buytoomuchonebay · 31/12/2021 11:11

I tell myself I have no spend days but I work 5 days a week and buy a meal deal for those
I can be at home-don’t leave the house-and still spend when looking on eBay
I’m doing no spend January to try to beam a light into my habits
(My dp doesn’t have to laugh quite so hard over this)

Vampirethriller · 31/12/2021 11:14

Most days, because I have very little money to begin with!

ruthydoodles24f · 31/12/2021 11:22

With 5 children that is difficult but I do try as much as I can 🤦🏻‍♀️

NewlyCat · 31/12/2021 11:24

I don't spend in physical shops very often but seem to buy something online every day. Groceries (we have them delivered a few times a week), clothes or other stuff people need for school / extra curricular activities, Christmas (or birthday or teacher or new baby or wedding) gifts, pet food/cat litter from the pet store ... I honestly am surprised at the end of a day if I haven't ordered something. Family of 5.

Why are you going to the supermarket so often? Can’t things wait until you have a couple of things on the list to buy? Don’t you meal plan? Just seems like a huge waste of your time!
InTheLabyrinth · 31/12/2021 11:36

Probably not far off:
Monday activity for child:50p
Tuesday music lesson
Wed top up shop
Thurs activity again for child:50p
Sun weekly shop

Have you tried the part bakes?

Nope, never occurred to me. Cheers. Will have a go!

Kite22 · 31/12/2021 12:54

Mmmm. Love the part baked baguettes and rolls

What about you @2022willbe ?
What do you do re your question ?

1AngelicFruitCake · 31/12/2021 14:15

I probably have 2 or 3 a week. Be more if I didn’t pop in for chocolate. When I first lived with DH we bought whatever we wanted and ate out loads. However, he’d been brought up to budget whereas I hadn’t so I soon realised how much money we were spending on eating out, top up shops etc. Much better and meal planning and one weekly shop now. Half term holidays I try and add extra snacks into the weekly shop so a trip to the park doesn’t always mean an ice-cream. Some of my friends seem to spend all of the time and I have no idea how they afford it!

(This reminds me of one of my favourite threads

With some real ‘how the other half live moments!’)

I’m really intrigued - how many of you in the house? Do you take snacks with you or have things in the car ready to have after the park? My friend would say the same as you but she’s got into a habit of always buying snacks when out.
BettyfromBristol · 31/12/2021 14:22

I normally only spend money on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The rest of the week I don't have the chance to get to the shops. Sometimes I buy something online but maybe once a month or so. DH will pop out for fruit and veg if we need anything.

Kite22 · 31/12/2021 16:22

Wow, @1AngelicFruitCake - I don't remember seeing that thread.
What an attitude ! Shock

I then went and bought a cake and candles for dps birthday tomorrow so I'm clearly full of shit 😂
CrimbleCrumble1 · 31/12/2021 16:34

Maybe 1 or 2 days a week as even if I’m not out spending money I may buy something such as toiletries online.

CrumblyCrimble · 31/12/2021 16:39

Interesting, and I've wondered about this too. I find I'm always adding something to the online grocery app, or grabbing something on Amazon etc. I'm conscious of how few thrifty days I have. Shopping online has meant I don't limit my spending as much as I used to. It's so convenient to get the thing I or DC need/want
