Beaches closest to London for New Year’s Day visit.

DD has asked if we can go to the beach on New Years Day. We’re in North London (Highgate) so want somewhere about 1.30 mins drive away. She just wants to wander on the beach, pick up stones & get some chips, so I don’t need slot machines etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions please??

We’re also in North London and had a lovely visit to Frinton a couple of months ago. I’ve no idea what’s open there at this time of year but the beach is lovely - long and sandy - and it only took us about an hour to get there.
