Corner sofa or 2 X two-seaters?

SkippettyDoDah · 30/12/2021 15:29

At the moment I am thinking
Pros for corner sofa

  • cuts the space off less if chaise style
  • cheaper

Pros for 2 two-seaters at right angles

  • people usually like the end of a sofa so this way you have 4 'good' seats

Any more to help me decide??

2 sofas , it’s so much more usable .

ViceLikeBlip · 30/12/2021 15:31

For just my family, I love to all pile onto the corner sofa. But when we (rarely!) have guests, I do think that two proper sofas, with 4 "good seats" as you put it, would be better.

Two two seaters

2 x 2 seater.
I have a corner sofa and I hate it. It doesn't have 4 usuable seats unless someone sits in front of someone else. And the chaise seat isn't comfortable.

minipie · 30/12/2021 15:33

Chaise sofa looks more generous and you can put your feet up

On the other hand, when you have guests you’ll find people don’t want to squash onto one sofa unless with close family , usually it ends up as a max of two people per sofa no matter how large the sofa is!

So really: is this sofa going to be more for when guests come over or more for hanging out as a family, and do you have space for an armchair for anyone who doesn’t want to be on the same sofa as others

minipie · 30/12/2021 15:34

And the chaise seat isn't comfortable.

@CiaoForDiNiaoSaur tell me more?? We were thinking of getting a chaise sofa because the chaise end looks so comfy!! If it isn’t then we may rethink…

HarrietOh · 30/12/2021 15:37

I love a chaise seat but I love to sit with legs up/lying down on a sofa, I can’t stand sitting bolt upright on a sofa watching TV.

CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 30/12/2021 15:40

I just don't find it comfortable sitting with my legs up for any length of time. Plus (and this could be specific to my sofa) but the end of the chaise where we sit has dipped a lot and the leg end hasn't (I guess my arse weighs more than my legs Wink). So my feet end up kind of higher than my bum and its not good for my hips.

I mean its comfy for half an hour or so. Maybe I should spend less time sitting down Grin

CandyCaneLane0 · 30/12/2021 15:43

I'd go for 2 sofas

Yellowcar2 · 30/12/2021 15:47

I made the mistake of 2x 2 seaters. Hated them as you couldn't lie down on them Sad

Laiste · 30/12/2021 16:40

All of the above. We had a corner unit many moons ago and it was great for 2 of you to slob about but not good for visitor situations. People used to perch on the edge Hmm The corner is too deep to sit back in usually.

We need a room diagram really OP ... Wink

trumpisagit · 30/12/2021 16:42

DH likes to lie down if possible (bad back), so we have a corner sofa, armchair and beanbag.
Does anyone want to lie on the sofa?

desperatehousewife21 · 30/12/2021 16:47

I’d choose a corner sofa every time, it saves so much space and also gives you loads more seating.

We had 2x2 sofas for ages and I hated the dead space between them. We’ve had a corner sofa for 5 years now and I love it and would always have one.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/12/2021 16:55

2 x 2 seaters, much more versatile

AnnieJ1985 · 30/12/2021 17:01

We have 2x 2-seaters that we moved to make an L - shape for Christmas telly watching, and we also have a big footstool that matches one of them, so if we want we can use it as a chaise. Don't think a corner sofa would work for us, our room is small. With 2 separate pieces we can move them into a few configurations depending on who is here. There is a bit of dead space in the corner between them, so I stick a small end table there for holding drinks etc

minipie · 30/12/2021 17:19

Thanks Ciao! Makes sense. DH always always sits with his feet up if he can and on our current non chaise sofa, that means there’s no space for anyone else (he has long legs). So maybe it would work for us… shame about the dipping though, that’s not ideal.

DressingPafe · 30/12/2021 17:27

I’ve just got rid of my much detested (chosen by ex) corner unit! It absolutely dominated the room and I had no arm to lean against when watching TV. So I’d end up piling a load of cushions on the corner part to lean on.

Now I have 2 x 2seaters and it’s so much more comfortable and the room looks far more open. More options for if I want to rearrange things too.

madmumofteens · 30/12/2021 17:28

I've got a corner sofa I wouldn't get another one tbh 2 x sofas next time.

Pucarbuile · 30/12/2021 17:40

We have a corner sofa with chaise. Usually dh sits with his leup on the chaise part, but we were talking about it recently and wouldn't get the chaise part again, just a regular corner. You can't actually sit comfortably on it as a regular seat since it doesn't have a back so it's only useful as a chaise rather than a two seater.

JohnSmithDrive · 30/12/2021 17:45

I have a corner sofa for the garden. It's lovely when it's just me with my feet up, but far too "cosy" for four people.

Fhee · 30/12/2021 17:49

We have a massive corner sofa, which replaced a knackered 3 seater and 2 seater. We had six people sitting comfortably on it the other day. I got two bolster cushions to try to replicate the end of the sofa arm leaning thing, they work ok and can be shoved out the way whenever.

My concern was having somewhere to put my tea 😄. I bought a narrow shelf table thing that slotted nicely behind the corner section.

2 sofas every time.

I think corner sofas are a bit naff, sorry. Although I’ve just remembered we have one on the patio Blush

DroopyClematis · 30/12/2021 17:56

It really does depend on your room layout...doorways, where the tv and/fire are.

We have a large 3 seater, a small 3 seater and a snuggle sofa with footstool that can be used to make the snuggle into a chaise.

I have the small 3 seater and can lie lengthways on it, husband has snuggle with footstool and adult children can have, when they're here, the largest sofa.

We can move things around if we fancy a change . We did ponder a corner suite once but it would have restricted where we put it.
Four adults would not sit comfortably and if we added footstools it would have looked like a giant bed in the middle of the room and only one or two armrests.

SkippettyDoDah · 30/12/2021 18:47

So helpful, thank you!

Layout is standard terrace with a door at each end of the room. We need the sofa/s to go in a right angle shape with one back to the wall and one to the space people walk between the two doors.

No-one lies on the sofa and actually we don't even sit on it much when it's just us (tend to sit on the floor with small DC) so it's more space for people visiting and sometimes for DP and I watching tv.
