Delayed post- Xmas cards?

Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm 'missing' about 4 cards from lifelong friends and wondering if they have crossed me off their lists or post is delayed. Normal postie still coming (as of yesterday) but nothing for me :(

My friend texted me to say thanks for my gift (letterbox sized, not a big parcel) which arrived yesterday, I posted it on Mon 20th. So give it a bit longer.

JinglingHellsBells · 30/12/2021 11:51

Thanks. I don't want to be Billy No Mates :(

These are friends of 50 years ago, from school days. And they haven't died.

Here in our segment of SE London letter and card deliveries are a distant dream .

Returnoftheowl · 30/12/2021 12:41

Ours has been slow recently. A Christmas card arrived yesterday which got posted in mid-december.
Hopefully yours will arrive in the next few days!

MadisonAvenue · 30/12/2021 12:43

I’ve noticed that we’re missing a few cards this year from people who usually send them by post. We’ve not had any mail since the 23rd.

IcedAbstinente · 30/12/2021 12:45

It;'s all really slow. And from OS as well. My BF lives in New Zealand and she posted a parcel to me the last week of october. It is yet to arrive.

yesterday we received 4 christmas cards and one christmas present. I am hoping our christmas presents arrived in time!

Pinkflipflop85 · 30/12/2021 12:48

DH is a postie. In his sorting office they are barely coping with so many staff off isolating. Add to that, lft and pcr have to be prioritised above everything. There are bags of Christmas cards sat looking sorry for themselves waiting to be delivered.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 30/12/2021 12:54

Check they haven't gone through a neighbour's door. We've had lots of new faces delivering our post recently (for obvious reasons and I'm guessing this must be happening everywhere) so possibly more likely to make a mistake than the posties who are familiar with your round.

JinglingHellsBells · 30/12/2021 12:56

They have just arrived :)

Bar one friend whose are always late(r).

Most were posted on the 20th , (2ndclass) and ones from the 22nd (first class) didn' t make it on time.

I've literally just had 4 Christmas cards in the post. One posted 16th Dec!

Igmum · 30/12/2021 12:58

Manchester here. We've had about two Mail deliveries in December. Got a big bundle of cards yesterday plus more today. I'm expecting them to continue into January. Combination of Covid and sorting office problems. I guess Royal Mail can only do what they can do and it'll be nice to get the cards whenever they arrive (also makes me feel less guilty for being ridiculously late posting some of mine Grin)

As an aside - amazingly an envelope that was put in the post on Tuesday 21 December turned up at my house on Christmas Eve. I know exactly when it was posted and hadn't expected it to come until this week.

... coming from about 5 hours away too, so not local.
Gotthetshirt23 · 30/12/2021 13:00

One received yesterday (29th)
Post marked 14/12 !

ChessieFL · 30/12/2021 13:01

We had 2 cards delivered yesterday.

M1RR0R · 30/12/2021 13:01

5 Christmas cards this morning - in the recycling! (Cards are down now & I’m slowly taking down decs)

BarefootHippieChick · 30/12/2021 13:02

I've only just had one from abroad, although more likely to be their postal system than ours

Sunsetsupernova · 30/12/2021 13:03

Yep here the post is terrible. I ordered from a small business who use RM in November. It hadn’t arrived the week before Christmas so they sent me a replacement. That still hasn’t arrived either.

I actually went to the sorting office to see if I could just pick them up and was met by “there’s thousands of parcels behind here, what do you expect me to do? Unless you send something recorded or guaranteed delivery you won’t get it” Apparently first class means nothing

I had four parcels from NZ posted variously between October 10 and November 15; they all arrived on the same day, just before Christmas.

The post from there is an absolute shitshow since they shut the borders and most of the flights were cancelled. And now they are extending the border closure...

RedCandyApple · 30/12/2021 13:08

I had a hospital letter sent on the 9th of December that I only received yesterday, about an appointment I must book within 2 weeks of the date on the letter 🙄 so now I’ve missed my appointment 😐

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 30/12/2021 13:09

Royal Mail Service Update

I still haven't had my Radio Times Christmas double issue which I subscribed to in September.
Two extra issues have been added on, which was fuck all use on Christmas Day.

SkepticalCat · 30/12/2021 13:13

Glad they arrived in the end @JinglingHellsBells.

I've heard that delays can occur both at the sorting office where the post has come from as well as where it is going to, so if post is being delivered locally then it may mean the post hasn't reached your sorting office yet.

statetrooperstacey · 30/12/2021 13:15

If you have anything time sensitive send it using the Royal Mail tracked service. They always get them out on time. Posties were off for 4 days this year instead of the usual 2 so this is also slowing things down along with the usual staff sickness shortages.

Yes, I posted my Christmas cards 2nd class on the evening of the 17th, after the last collection of the day. Saturday the 18th was the last date to post 2nd class but I had a message from a friend on the 20th thanking me for the card which had just arrived. She lives 4 hours away from me.
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/12/2021 00:47

I'm missing a few, and I know my DM and DGM have both said they haven't had some they usually do (DGM did say that once you're in your 90s your list shrinks quickly, but she thought she'd have heard if they'd died!).

I think it might be a combination of the post struggling, and some people sending them later especially if they had to isolate at any point. I was pretty early sending mine, but later than some years because I struggled to find many designs I liked.
