Anyone every got a Senior ‘something’ job without being a ‘something’ first

Sorry if this is unclear- I’ve found a job that looks great and I meet the minimum criteria for, I have a lot of transferable skills and relevant experience but I haven’t actually done the job itself at the more junior level.

I’m keen to apply but obviously they are likely to have people with more experience/junior internal people so not getting my hopes up. Just wondered if anyone has ever jumped to a senior position from something different and if they have any advice? Thanks!

Hard to know without knowing specifics, but if you evidence how you meet the person spec it's worth applying surely?
Can you call the recruitment manager and have a discussion?

Are you in the same line of work or is it a complete career change? Seniors in my sector, don't necessarily need to have been in the role below but will be expected to have relevant expierence and transferable the skills. The actual title of the post the held previously doesn't matter too much.

Same line of work (nursing) different speciality as if were but I work in a role that uses a lot of the skills needed for the specialist role.

I was going to use nursing as an example of a job where it may not be possible. However on reflection some specialist posts are really difficult to recruit into around here (I am a nurse and watch the NHS job posts) and I have known nurses to switch specialities at band 6 level, so I stand by my 'may be worth a shot' comment.
