They've just messaged me to say he's tested positive for covid today. We spent a few hours together and now I'm worried I might have covid too.
I suffer with bad health anxiety and can't stop worrying that it's going to be really bad. I have a very young ds and I'm worried about him too.

I had my booster but only a week ago.

I can't stop panicking 🥺

When did he get symptoms?
Normally look at contacts in the 2 days before symptoms began

First of all try not to panic. You may not get it at all.

My son (age 4) had it and I caught it from him. My husband has not caught it despite not distancing from us at all and my other son has not caught it either. He is 3 and has been playing with his brother, drinking from the same water bottle 🙈 and in the same room most of the time.

If you do get it it’s likely to be very mild as you are vaccinated. My son was only unwell for one day. I’ve had only very mild cold like symptoms. I was worried too as I am pregnant and have asthma but it’s been ok. For the vast majority of people it is ok. Health anxiety is hard Flowers

You will have some benefit from the booster even if it's not the full effect yet.
Do you have someone you can call and chat to to help stop the worrying from snowballing?

I doubt it's the first time you've been in contact with someone who's Covid positive.

Are you getting any help for your health anxiety?

Echobelly · 29/12/2021 20:26

Do you or DS have any health issues that make COVID a danger to you? If not and you have 2 jabs (even if booster not running yet), you really shouldn't get anything worse than a very bad cold, and little ones experience it very mildly.

I know it's easy for me to say and difficult for it to drown out your anxiety, but I find when I'm anxious and fixating on something, repeating to myself 'If worry won't help, don't worry', or even just 'Worry won't help'. Usually I have to do that a lot of times, but it's worth reminding yourself that worrying won't change anything or help you prepare for the worst, and there's a good chance it's not even necessary.

Thanks for your replies. It keep telling myself that it's highly unlikely I'll suffer badly because I'm fully vaccinated so I've talked myself down a little.
It's also made me realise maybe I need some help with my anxiety. Not sure what help is out there but I know I even panic when my little boy gets a cough, I worry so much and try and hide it but constantly think about the worst case situations. It's awful. I'm on constant danger alert!
