A serious question about vinegar - as in what you put on chips and what you keep it in

I would like a vinegar.....serving bottle? What is it even called? I do not want the plastic bottle on the table.

I don't want the clear glass thing with a stopper like you sometimes get in a restaurant. The dds will spill it all over the table.

Please show/link me your stylish vinegar serving......vessels?

Don’t know the answer but I’d call it a shaker?

I'd call it a cruet or, simply, a vinegar bottle.

ExquisitelyDecorated · 29/12/2021 18:27

We've got a cafe type one from Amazon. It's not THE most stylish thing but it does the job and looks better than having the Sarson's bottle out.

Crinkle77 · 29/12/2021 18:57

What's wrong with having the plastic bottle on the table?

ExquisitelyDecorated · 29/12/2021 19:21

They don't always have a dropper is the main reason, also we re-use pickled onion vinegar from the jar. Looking nicer is a bonus.

iklboo · 29/12/2021 19:31

I use the Sarsons bottle I bought when I first moved out of my parents' house. 28 years ago Blush.

I'd love the nice glass ones in restaurants but I'd probably end up pouring it everywhere! As much as I love vinegar, half a bottle is a bit too much.

topcat2014 · 29/12/2021 19:33

It stays in what it came in, but that must make me a peasant. Also all other table sauces stay in jars.

I do put my instant coffee in a canister though.

Oldraver · 29/12/2021 20:10

We buy the Sarsons in a glass bottle

Heathens

AnotherMansCause · 29/12/2021 20:14

The problem with the type in the picture above, is that it's possible fpr the little tiny flies to get in through the hole in the top. You need one with a proper cap that closes. We use a Sarsons glass bottle now, i theory they aren't refillable but you can, I found a Youtube video that shows how to do it & it works! I give it a proper wash every so often between refills obviously.

AnotherMansCause · 29/12/2021 20:15

OMG sorry, so many typos

Bloody tablet, betraying me...

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/12/2021 20:19

Mine is in a glass bottle. I hide it in the cupboard and use it then tuck it away. My parents are very proper and think vinegar is rather common. So I have a guilt for using it. Bloody delicious it is too.

Nothing. But I want a fancy one 😂

Vinegar common? The Queen herself uses it (Probably. I bet she loves a chippy tea on a Friday.) Grin

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 29/12/2021 22:29

i have a little stone bottle...a bit like those old fashioned stone hot water bottles...but it has a little loop on the top to hold it.

It has a matching screw top, the seal is a little iffy but the whole thing goes in the dish washer if necessary, and we shake it over our chips with our thumb over the top to stop it sqooshing everywhere.

Snugglepumpkin · 30/12/2021 02:55

This is the one I use as I have the crockery set & various serving dishes that go with it.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/12/2021 06:32

You're looking for something that is surprisingly hard to find OP, which may be the reason why pubs almost never have what we'd call a 'normal' vinegar bottle and have those that take a lot of care to deliver a sprinkling not a drenching on your food.

I wanted one a few months ago and I think I looked in all supermarkets, pound shops, Wilko, Home Bargains, B&M and before I finally gave up, I found one like that linked above in The Range, much cheaper than Amazon though.
