I am sorry but, I have to say I will argue with anyone

who tells me the best toasted sarnies are not the ones you fry in butter in a frying pan.
They are a thing of beauty and I am so glad I discovered this wondeful hack.
You can keep your sandwich makers.. in fact you can have mine (I have two) and they do not hold a candle to the lovingly prepared and full of butter ones I can now whip up at the drop of a hat.

I'm inclined to agree with you but I've never done it because Im far too lazy. You could come live with me, make them for me daily and I can help prove if you're right?

TyneTeas · 29/12/2021 14:14

I butter the outside then toast them under the grill

Northernsoullover · 29/12/2021 14:15

I always make a frying pan buttered toasty. Food of the gods!

I've never tried this, but now I really want to, it sounds awesome! What's your recipe OP?

whateveritwilltake · 29/12/2021 14:17

I got 30 min Mowgli for Christmas. Am scarred to try the keema toastie (which Nisha says is fine fried in pan if no sandwich maker) because I'll get addicted. I can see me having a freezer stash of keema

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/12/2021 14:23

I agree, takes no time and you don't have a toastie maker to clean afterwards, you can just sling the pan in dishwasher. Scoville are the best pans ime.

SickAndTiredAgain · 29/12/2021 14:24

I know this isn’t AIBU, but you are most definitely not being unreasonable! They are definitely the best toasties.

Crayfishforyou · 29/12/2021 14:24

Agreed. I do mine with mozarella, chicken, spinach and red peppers. I use harissa paste as butter and then fry in melted butter.

It is amazing.

janicewheeler · 29/12/2021 14:25

always make them this way Smile

The cheese ones are simply divine and.. the cheese tastes even more cheesey. Try it !

DS likes a wrap fried, a handful of cheese in middle, sides folded in, flip, serve and eat.

Anordinarymum · 29/12/2021 14:28

It looks as if I have found my tribe then !

So, you make a sandwich with whatever and then fry it on both sides in butter, is that right?

That’s what I do, ham and cheese sandwich, butter the outsides, fry it until you’ve got toasted bread and melted cheese.

Butter the outside and put in the pan, yes.
ElleGettingBetter · 29/12/2021 14:30

HOW do you do this?!

Please tell me your secrets!

Itonlytakesonetree · 29/12/2021 14:33

Cheese and onion ones are the best. I have bought white bread to use up the Christmas cheese for this very purpose - I find true gluttony tastes better on white bread.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/12/2021 14:34

Cheese, ham and cranberry sauce is what I had for lunch today.

I use white bread for the family but you can use brown. It's allowed :)

Oh my god, that sounds sooo good. Never thought to do that. Yum!
Thank you.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/12/2021 14:39

If I'm feeling especially indulgent, I make a ham and cheese sandwich, dip in beaten egg and fry that in butter.

Beat that OP.

But I do now need the Mowgli book so thanks to the poster who mentioned that.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/12/2021 14:40

YABU. Because that's a fried bread sandwich, not a toastie.

However, all I get from DP are barely singed pieces of GF bread that have been put into the microwave to heat the edges of the filling hotter than the surface of the sun, leaving the disappointing centre still cold. So I'm clearly speaking out of jealousy.

Not if you tell yourself it is a toastie !

The best thing is cheese between two slices of French toast, my mum used to call the Cheese Dreams.

I don't like egg :( But wouldn't that be 'eggy bread' anyway?
