Renault Clio

Hey all

Does anyone have any experience with a Renault Clio? I am in desperate need of a new car. I have found a 2011 one that’s within budget and looks to be really good.

My friend has said that it’s the worst thing I could possibly buy and even has a friend who works for Renault and wouldn’t buy one.

So. Does anyone have one? Or had one? I don’t want to waste money and regret it!

I have a 2013 Clio which I've had for 7 years and hasn't given me a moment's worry. I love it and it's been an absolute dream. I want a newer car so I'll be trading it in for a new Clio.
They have different versions pretty regularly so I'm not sure about the 2011 version but I've been very happy with mine, it's never broken down or cost me much. There are many, many worse cars out there so I don't understand your friend saying that they are the worst thing you can buy.

Neve had a Clio but had other renaults. Always good cars for me but you do hear people say they would never buy a french car ...or Italian!
I can only go with what I know and all of mine were good

Mine was a nightmare
Now have a megane and honestly get a German car

I have a 2008 Clio. Had it for 1 year and love it however a few electrical issues which luckily my partner can fix. Tbh most things can be fixed at home if need, great availability of cheap parts, lots of YouTube tutorial about too. I love my Clio, had a little bump this month in it and was devastated at the thought I’d have to get rid but again we can fix at home. Cheap to run, huge boot, even in a 3 seater. If the MOT/service history is good go for it. Lots of people will put you off but most who have owned a Clio will love them and recommend

Not a Cleo, but I've had a couple of Renaults and they have always been v reliable cars with a nice quality build for the price too.

I had a Clio for several years. Never had any trouble with it. Could you get it inspected before you commit to buying it?

I had a 1999 old type Clio some years back and it was a brilliant little car, then had a new shape Clio more recently as a hire car and it was awful to drive, wallowy and unresponsive. I was really disappointed as I was considering buying one.

I’ve had a Renault in the past. Cost me an absolute fortune trying to fix electrical problems over and over. Never resolved the issue, would not have a Renault again, even as a gift (being stranded in a near deserted car park miles from anywhere in an evening because the bloody thing conked out yet again was a particularly low point).
Friends and family have had similar issues with the electrics in Scenics, Meganes and Clios.

I had a newer model Clio until recently, and a megane, both were great cars. The Clio was my mums, I held on to it after she died last year then we traded in the 2 cars for 1 newer car. My only problem with the Clio was that I found it a tiny bit in the small side - as in I’m 5ft 8 and my head practically hit the ceiling in it. But other than that it was a great car.

Husband has had several Clios - none of them have missed a beat.

Spend the money on a Yaris, Mazda 2 or a Micra. All three of those should give much more trouble free service than a Clio.

My parents had a Clio years ago and loved it - great build quality. Then they got a new on 5 years ago and it was atrocious- always having little things go wrong with it and the warranty was never honoured as the garage always put it down to wear and tear!!! They traded it after 2 years for a VW Up, which they love. I would recommend the Toyota Yaris. We had one for years with no issues ever.
