I was wondering if the French do Easter like say the Spanish and would there be parades or things shut at this time of year. I am wondering where to base us, thank you.

I've been to that area, and I live in France - but haven't combined the two.

I'm in a large and very Catholic city, and I'm not aware of there being any festivals or parades or anything over Easter. I don't think it's a French thing? Shops in more rural places might shut on the Friday or the Monday, but that's about it. Might be different over at the Spanish border though.

There are "Semana Santa" (Holy Week) parades in Hondarribia and Irun which are just down the road from Biarritz.

If you can get to San Sebastian (Donostia) it is similar, but San Seb is fabulous anyway. Just an hour or so by train from Biarritz depending on timings, and about 40 minutes by car.
