Rain hammering down again today. Don't want to go out

I was planning to go out and use my Christmas money to buy a new bike but the rain is absolutely awful. Feel like staying in and doing nothing. Bleurgh to shite weather.

Just looked out and said the same (apart from the bike bit!) Just grim! Would much prefer some proper, cold wintery days.

maddiemookins16mum · 29/12/2021 09:07

It’s been so miserable here (Kent), tipped it down for days ☹️

Puppymania · 29/12/2021 09:08

It is a bit wet outside! Have bike stocks improved? When we bought one for my son we hadn't realised the lockdowns and supply chain issues meant there were delivery delays.
Should you pluck up the courage to go, with a waterproof jacket, to see if you can get a bike sooner rather than later?

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 29/12/2021 09:08

Where I live is surrounded by thick wet mud. It's just not fun trudging about in this.

Agree. We’re supposed to be going to visit MIL who lives 1.5 hours away and I really don’t fancy the drive in this.

I’ll never understand people who love winter - it’s very rarely crisp, cold, sunny days, it’s just months of rain and dampness.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 29/12/2021 09:10

I might suck it up and go to the bike shop if DCs get restless later. They are very keen for me to get my bike so we can all go cycling as a family. Need to go school shoe shopping too but not sure I can face that yet.

It’s grim and grey and miserable. Hate it.

I used to live in Eastern Europe and we had hard cold winters with lots of snow but with bright blue skies and sunshine. So much better for my mental health.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 29/12/2021 09:14

Raining in the SW and I’m going nowhere. I spent yesterday evening watching the Winterwatch special on the Great Freeze of 1963 on iplayer, and I’m glad we don’t seem to get winters like that any more!

I’ve yet to see any ice this season.

Surprised nobody has suggested taking a picnic to the park in a puddle suit yet 🤔 😄

Same here - I want a cold, crisp day. Any dampness really triggers my asthma so
I can't go for a walk

liveforsummer · 29/12/2021 11:44

Horrid here too, even the dog doesn't want to go out so we are having that lazy day. My photo memories of this time last year was us all playing in the snow. Longing for that instead

RosieLemonade · 29/12/2021 12:12

Been awful weather her since the 23rd! So bored of being inside. Need to do some shopping etc but doesn't feel fair on DD to make her do thing's she doesn't like and in the rain!

dementedma · 29/12/2021 12:13

Still in bed here.

You've obviously been on mumsnet as long as me Grin

Nah, your dc don't sound like toddlers. This advice is only given to those with the dc who whinge the loudest and are least likely to enjoy such a trip 😆

Give them time! You would need to make sure you follow it up with hot chocolate and a snuggle under a blanket in front of a family friendly movie for the full MN experience Grin
