Would you spend £95 on a purse?

I've fallen in love with a leather purse in the sale £95 reduced from £190
I'm tempted but so soon after Xmas gifts I'm not sure if I can justify it.
Would you?
Is it too expensive ?

Fairyliz · 29/12/2021 11:26

I wouldn’t I couldn’t justify that on a purse.
I got a leather one from TK Maxx that cost about £20. I’ve been using it daily for about six years now and it’s still in good condition.

Luckyducky75 · 29/12/2021 11:33

Do it! X

BarbaraofSeville · 29/12/2021 11:37

Far too many women on here post stuff about never spending much on themselves & even if they had the money they wouldn't spend it on themselves & that always makes me sad to read. We deserve nice things too

^^ This. You deserve your share of family money to spend on yourself without guilt. I despair of the number of women who get tied up in expectations about gifts 'because they can't justify buying themselves the nice thing they want'. If you have the money, buy the purse, it will last for decades.

I bought a £50 purse with money I was given for my 40th birthday. I'm 48 now and it's still good as new.

Buy it! It will last you years. I have a posh purse and I've had it for 15 years.

dementedma · 29/12/2021 11:41

Personally no, but your money so do what pleases you

AtomicBlondeRose · 29/12/2021 11:41

I agree about the Ted Baker purses - mine was about that and I bought it when DS (now 10) was a baby. It still looks great and it’s only this year I’ve even thought about replacing it. I’d definitely buy another one.

louloulemmonnnn · 29/12/2021 11:54

Well I bought a fiorellii purse last Christmas (thinking it was meant to be good quality ) and after 5 months it was all tatty and worn away at the sides

ponkydonkey · 29/12/2021 12:08

I have 3 mulberry purses and the oldest is 17 years old and still looks great
Go for it

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/12/2021 12:10

No. I’d spend £90 on other things that someone else would no doubt think were far too pricey for what they were too, though. So, if it’s something you value and will use for a long time, why not?

Squashpocket · 29/12/2021 12:14

I bought a leather purse from fossil 15 years ago for about £60 (a lot to me at that stage) and I've only decided to replace it this year. And that's only because it's started to look a bit grubby, the stitching etc. is still perfect. I would pay a bit extra for something you love and use every day.

liveforsummer · 29/12/2021 12:53

Absolutely if everything necessary is paid. When if it meant cutting back on other stuff (more basic meals for a week or so etc) if I loved it. In the long run it's an investment as will last and last if it's high quality.

P.a to post a link just hold down on the address bar at the top of the page when the purse is on your screen. The copy option will come up so select it then hold down on the comment box you are typing in on mumsnet then select the paste option when it comes up. Alternatively you can just screen shot and add a picture from the paper clip option on the app. Takes a while for your camera roll pictures to appear though.

Kite22 · 29/12/2021 15:43

No, I wouldn't. Who uses a purse these days anyway?

Well, I do, and so do millions of others. Anecdotally, I'd say the vast majority of women do.

Far too many women on here post stuff about never spending much on themselves & even if they had the money they wouldn't spend it on themselves & that always makes me sad to read. We deserve nice things too

I have nice things, but I don't see the point of spending £90 on something I can get for a fiver. Putting a big price tag on something doesn't make it any 'nicer'. I personally see a purse as a very functional thing, and not something I would spend a lot on. OTOH, I will spend money on things that are 'over' in a day (theatre, sports events, eating out) which some other folk might think is a waste as it is 'gone' straight away. As I said earlier, and other posters have said too - If the money is spare, then treat yourself to whatever will make you happy - it doesn't really matter if other strangers on the internet would make the same choices or different ones.

Squiff70 · 29/12/2021 15:52

I would if I could afford that spare cash at the time and wasn't likely to need the money in the near future for something more important. Most women who like to have their hair or nails done at salons would pay about £30-60 for the pampering, so one to two visits to the salon would cover the cost of your purse. Can you cut back a little on other things to ease any guilt you might feel? As others have said, many of us women (especially mums) spend all our time and money on our families. It's fine to treat ourselves occasionally too.

Also, money saving expert Martin Lewis has a moneysaving mantra: if you're skint, ask yourself "Do I need it?" and "can I afford it?". If you're NOT skint, ask "Will I use it?" and "Is it worth it?".

I say if you can afford it and you really love it then go for it before it goes out of stock and the decision gets taken out of your hands. If you DO buy it, buy it without guilt and enjoy it :)

redbigbananafeet · 29/12/2021 16:00

Please post a link or photo. And yes I 100% would without thinking twice about it. Quality leather purses and handbags last forever. And everyday you use it it will make you smile and feel special. Which is priceless.

JingsMahBucket · 29/12/2021 16:04

@louloulemmonnnn

Well I bought a fiorellii purse last Christmas (thinking it was meant to be good quality ) and after 5 months it was all tatty and worn away at the sides
@louloulemmonnnn Fiorelli used to be a dependable company but their quality has dramatically in the last 15 years or so.
JingsMahBucket · 29/12/2021 16:04

Sorry, has sunken dramatically

ChristmasWithBellsOn · 29/12/2021 16:07

I was given a Prada keyring (£125) by a friend for my 21st birthday. I'm still using it now...22 years later. Every so often I think I might like to change it, but can never find one I like as much.

escapingthecity · 29/12/2021 16:10

I have a gorgeous leather wallet DH gave me 9 years ago which I still use every day. I've never dared find out how much it was as it's from a brand I'd never have bought for myself, but it's got many more years of use in it and brings me pleasure every time I hold it. Go for it.

IncompleteSenten · 29/12/2021 16:10

I absolutely would not.
But 95 is a lot of money to me.
If you can afford it and you want it - have it! You should t feel guilty or that you somehow shouldn't have something you want and can afford.

Hippychicken1 · 29/12/2021 16:22

Yes I spent 300 on a purse 5 years ago and use it daily and it’s still in perfect condition
Cheap £20 purse last a few months if I’m lucky

amusedbush · 29/12/2021 17:52

I spent about that on my Kate Spade purse in 2018, I got it at a decent price from one of the discount stores in New York. It still looks brand new and it has been rattling around in my bag every day since then.

AbandonedCharacter · 30/12/2021 09:26

Have you made a decision, OP? What make are you considering?

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 30/12/2021 10:40

Im trying to decide as well

I have a radley purse from about 15 years ago and i saw a ‘driving home for Christmas’ radley bag which i just love

They have all sold out and to be fair I’m not really a handbag person but they do a matinee purse version for £89

If it was a smaller purse I’d just buy it but the matinee ones are really quite big, I suppose I could use it as a clutch as well 🤔

TheCatShatInTheHat · 30/12/2021 11:01

My New Year's resolution is to buy what I want and not only what I need. Started early and already spent a LOT. On the look out for a new purse too.

CityCommuter · 30/12/2021 12:29

@louloulemmonnnn I hope you bought that purse as it's a great bargain! I love good quality leather purses and handbags as well so I don't think I could resist buying one that I really like at half price! Which purse is it as I'm intrigued now? Post a picture if you can...
