Hi everyone due first baby in January , very worried if needed assisted birth with forceps and / or an episiotomy, some people say is it more an outdated practice these days? Other people say better to tear naturally ? So many different opinions from people I really dont know what would be best !

Don’t forget that plenty of women have neither.

I would really recommend the positive birth company's hypnobirthing course if you're feeling anxious about labour.

I was really worried about an episiotomy (I don’t know why) but my baby kept getting stuck on her way out and her HR was dropping. The midwife told me I had one more chance to push her out else they would have to do an episiotomy. I pushed her out but ended up with 2nd degree tearing. I had an epidural so didn’t feel it and it honestly was okay after. Tender but okay. I’m fully healed now and feel fine. Trust me, you’ll do whatever is best for your baby in the moment. Tell your midwife you’d rather avoid it if possible xxx
