Need to find new friends

I need to make new friends. Im 47, married and got 3 kids, 9, 13 and 17.

Where do i look for new friends?

Im on meet up but most of them is either during the week which i work or they want to go on long days out at weekends which i dont have the energy to do that yet due to my depression. I cant find one that suits me.

Good question. How about a hobby/club in your local area. It’s been difficult with the pandemic but I’m going to join a running club in the New Year in the hope of finding new friends. What about an exercise class, yoga? Also good for mental health. Good luck I hope you find something.

Are any of your children's friends' parents worth trying to get to know better?

Any particular reason why you need to find new friends? Maybe it would be good to address the reason why you need to find new people so your next friendships last longer. Do you have high or unrealistic expectations of people? What do you want from a friendship? You mentioned depression, does this affect your social relationships?

ReeceWitherfork yes i am rejoining back to the gym/dance classes in the New Year and my 13y dd will be joining too.

Puddletown this is not my birth town and all the mums are cliche and known each other since primary. I have made 2 friends but they've got their own friends circle from work so sadly im not from that work. Plus one of them, who I've known for over 10 years, im fed up of chasing her around to meet up. I cant be arse anymore.

Twinkleylight ive had friends come and gone over the years. I dont know why i keep on losing them..maybe its cos im deaf or maybe cos im a little bit introvert but once i get to know them abit more..I'm more open. My speech is really good but it can put people off. Im not a demanding type.of person or a controlling type or have high expections of other people....

If i meet a person and we both clicked, then thats great and i go further in that friendship.

Maybe im boring! I dont know why i lose friends all the time. It quite draining.

Twinkleylight yes i do have depression, but cos I've no mates to go out with. As i do have my dh but its nice to have mates as well. Once i go out, its a nice feeling to be in a social circle with them and to have a laugh.

I wouldnt know how to address the reason of why i need new mates (its cos i dont have any 🤣)... as ive got one very good friend and one ok friend but she cant be arse to keep in touch as i do all the running around. But ive been weaning off her for the past few months but she prob hasnt noticed anyway

Thanks for the update, that makes more sense now. Where I live atm is not my birth town either and it took a long time to make friends. I met people through dc school, volunteering & a carers circle as I care for a vulnerable person. The friends I've made through the carers club are my closest as we share similar experiences. Are their charities, voluntary organisations & groups for the hard of hearing nearby you can join?

Twinkleylights. No theres nothing in my area at all as they dont seem to do any social events at all so i would have to go further afield. The deaf community/club is really not my cup of tea as ive tried it but im more comfortable in the hearing world as i grew up in the hearing world.

My sons cubs were asking for any volunteers last year so i might ask them if still asking for any now.
