Has anyone sanded and re-stained antique pine?

I have a lovely antique pine chest of drawers. It’s not in terrible condition but the wood is marked, has water rings and generally looks tired. The brass cup handles are tarnished and a bit buckled.

If you have sanded and restrained antique pine what products did you use. I’ve seen something online called osmo polyx oil which looked good. I’d like to keep the original handles but wonder if I could paint them with something like Rustoleum rather than try bring back the natural brass. It’s in such a state I’m not sure they’d come up to anything decent. Unless anyone knows of an miracle brass restorer. I think I’d borrow or hire an electric sander as it would take ages by hand. Any advice or tips or what not to do/use, would be really appreciated. I can’t afford for anyone to do the job for me and am not experienced in any diy project but I’d have a go at this if I knew the best products.

Just wondering what happened in the end @Djeserkare - am about to do something similar!
